Reversing Sensors

Fitted reversing sensors today on my MH. 4 at the rear which came with 3m length wires. Fitted the ECU also at the rear, inside of one of the storage compartments. Ran the 7m length wire for the Display unit along the length of the MH and fixed the Display above the streering wheel on the consul top. Had to drill 21mm x 4 holes to take the sensors. Connected the live wire to the reversing light and the earth wire to the body. The worst part of the job was running the Display unit wire through the length of the MH, that too, was not that bad. So, no more ramming the rear motor bike rack. I have a reversing camera but still manage to knock the blind corners. Hope this solves my problem.

This is a job I have also contemplated ...

There are wireless units available which should make the task rather easier.

Has anyone tried these?

I fitted the £20 maplin 4 sensor job, as described the worst part was routing the wire. I had to lengthen the wire for the display but that's not hard. Decided then to fit the same to the front - this was more complex due to the structure behind the abs fairing, wired the power to a microswitch mounted on the gear selector in 1st gear position. In retrospect this was probably not worth the effort as it can be irritating in slow moving traffic. Thinking of replacing it with a spare switch on the dash. Yes we have a camera but the sensors give more lateral coverage and 'see' kerbs better.

Oh yeah... wireless... yep - quicker, but exposed battery housings and possibility of interference and signal masking. And batteries running out at inopportune moments...

The wireless kits are powered off the reverse light circuit, the same as the wired versions.

It's the signal issue that concerns me ...

That makes sense. Not totally wireless then...:D

I fitted a wireless set, but found them very unreliable. They would cry wolf too many times. In the end I discarded them and fitted a reversing camera - much better but more expensive. However I do not regard the camera as a waste of money whereas the reversing sensore definitely were.
