You could connect to the reverse switch In the Gearbox if easier, alternatively you could just connect to a spare fuse and fit a switch to turn on the monitor as and when required.

If i remember correctly I just wired mine to a permanent feed and had it live all the time as soon as the ignition was switched on so it could be used as a rear view mirror.

You pick a live switched supply for the monitor at the front and a live supply for the camera from the reversing light.

If you did not get a wiring diagram with it, I have a typical diagram somewhere that I can root out.

Trouble with that is what happens when you want the camera on when reverse is not selected. Just switch it of the ignition. If you must have an off switch then fit one in the dash. Easy really.

If it's a Ducato base vehicle with CanBus you can use a CanM8 interface that gives you the reverse signal from the CanBus canm8 website. It also gives you the ignition on feed 12v.

Otherwise you try and find a 12v feed from somewhere that gives 12v when in reverse. You could also just use 12v supply and fit a switch which means you can leave the camera on all the while but the picture you get at night is not that good and you get a lot of flashing images as the camera tries to compensate for dark and light.

I have a downward facing camera on the reverse feed to see the towball and towball mounted bike rack. The other on ignition live shows a rear view to cover a blind spot when driving on right.

The OP asked about a reversing camera, not anything else.

There are times when preparing to reverse you may well have a forward gear selected yet still wish to have the reversing view. Still it's a free world isn't it

Hi, mine is wired so that when reverse is selected the monitor comes on and shows the view behind, if I want to see behind when in a forward gear I just press a switch on the monitor and the rear view is displayed, the system was already installed when I bought the motorhome.

Maybe I am slow on the uptake but when I am preparing to reverse, I tend to engage reverse gear before I move. I also cannot see the advantage of watching my towbar and the ground around it while sat at the wheel. If I had an A frame or something on a towbar mounted rack, I might want to check it now and again while on the move.

If I wanted to use a camera as a rear view accessory I would fit a dual lens camera with one lens looking back down the road and switch it through a switch on the dash (I would not need a permanent live supply even then). My van is already set up with a Monitor that has an AV1 and AV2 input, it also has a spare wire running front to back in case it is required. I am quite happy with one camera pointing down that is only used when reversing. What anyone else has is down to them and of no concern to me, I stick to trying to answer the question asked by the OP. Threads on here tend to get taken off subject, possibly by people trying to be helpful but just confusing the OP even more. As my old Headmaster used to say, always read the question and then read it again.

As i said it's a free world, you are quite free to do it your way, but I do expect you to let me do it my way also

Thats what i did as mine points down at 45 deg so i can see rear bumper and 2 car lengths back, handy also when driving, dont bother with the reverse switch or lamps so you can do the above.
Mount the cam as high as pos, mine is above the no plate.
You can also use to see who is sniping around back of van when parked up.

Mine is wired to the Rev lights, but also as a live feed to it so you can have it on without being in reverse

its easy if you have a manual, on my transit the main feed for reversing lights runs up the passenger door pillar, just connected that for the monitor, for the camera connected to revering light wire, transits are crap for wiring, and power supplying, so changed bulbs to led, so they wouldn't dim.
