The one I tried wasn't very loud. Maybe they've improved a lot.

beep beep

not very loud as already said, a waste of money in my view you need to try the disabled car ones a bit deare but really better

check when you fit the bulb that it does not touch the lense. Some do and melt the lense

I'd heard that they wern't very loud as well which is why I don't have them.

the one scotsy had was pretty loud, i could hear it sat inside and im a little mutt n jeff. worth a try i thought

I can comfirm they get way too hot & melt the lenses,,,, i know because they melted through my Hymer lenses on a long reverse,, dont bothere with them,

Mothman,,,,

I agree with Monthman, but had bought them ages ago, so haven't bothered to replace them with the Mothman type. Anyway, it takes me less than 30 secs to do a reverse, unless you drive up the highway backwards☺☺☺

You also have to be aware of the regulations regarding reversing beepers. I think it's the same period as when you aren't supposed to use horns (Somebody who's recently passed their test should be able to tell us the times) ;)

Anyway, with those bulb/beepers there's no way to disable the beep during prohibited hours.

Is there really a regulation regarding reversing beepers?
I had the bulb type reversing beeper on my T4, was louder in the van than outside it, but could be heard if you were close to the van (which is what the beeper is needed for).
I bought one recently (off ebay) for my motorhome, but when I took my back light off it was apparant that I have built in LEDs ......doh!

Regulation 99 Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 states that horns and other warning instruments must not be used:

1. when the vehicle is stationary (other than an emergency involving another vehicle, a reversing alarm or a boarding aid alarm), or
2. in motion on a restricted road between 2330 hours and 0700 hours.

No person shall sound or cause or permit to be sounded on a road a reversing alarm or a boarding aid alarm unless it is fitted to:

1. a goods vehicle having a maximum gross weight not less than 2000kg,
2. a bus,
3. engineering plant, a refuse vehicle or a works truck.

So, basically, it doesn't matter if you reverses in someone unless you are driving goods, bus or refuse truck.

I would have thought a safety issue is a safety issue.

Weird people, these folk wot make the laws.

I have one of those beeping bulbs on my transit luton, and can;t here it when sat in the cab with the window down, when your standing at the back with it in reverse you can hear it, but not enough for people to pay any attention to it though. I normally find it more effective to reverse into those standing at the rear of my van they soon move then

Proper reversing beepers, rather than those incorporated into a bulb, are normally wired so the beep ceases when side lights activated.
