Restrictions on taking food into France.

A few years ago, when I was planning a trip to Scandinavia, I discovered that there was a restriction on taking food into the country, which effectively knocked the trip on the head as it would have doubled our food costs at least. Does anyone know whether there are any similar restrictions in the EU zone, as it's possible I might decide to come back via Italy, Switzerland, Germany and Belgium, depending on time.

i must say that this is a new worry to worry about,but i wouldn't worry about it. although i did have some french potatoes confiscated by british customs once,but they weren't that good anyway

yes there is a long list of restricted food mainly dairy

We had our sarnies embargo'd on a trip to Ireland once! :rolleyes2:

Fortunately they let us eat them before boarding the ferry so we still didn't need to buy their grotty & expensive on board food. It was dairy produce (cheese butties) that they objected to. I don't think many border patrols bother anyway (this happened during the Foot & Mouth outbreak) and there are no border controls anyway between the Schengen countries.

Mind you, maybe you need stuff to worry about?

They won't allow Marmite in Denmark,but I smuggled some in en route to Sweden!
