Idle musing about trusted Repairers/Installers and similar, prompted by RSD7a's post yesterday 'Auto Electrician in East Lothian'. Would there be any merit in having a section for Repairers/Installers/Mobile Mechanics et al, recorded by geographical location, so that Members can find a reliable/competent tradesperson on their patch? News of bad experiences tends to get posted, but details of good experiences and people tends to be rarer! In the latter respect, I'm probably more guilty than most Members for posting negative comments [It's an Old Age thing ...] :ROFLMAO:

Details recorded could include: name of business; name of proprietor/main contact; type of business and services offered, including any specialities; a note of any quirks [I used to use a Citroen Collector/Mechanic for my BX17RD and if I phoned Malcolm up to ask how the job was going, he would reply, 'Well, if you get off the bloody phone, I'd get it finished quicker!']; and an hourly rate/job cost as at the date of the repair. And any other details that wiser, more experienced Members feel would be useful [perhaps a section for brief comments, such as 'arranged overnight stay at premises to allow erly start on day of job']

This is not something to be tackled by unstructured posts to a thread.
To be of any use this would have to be searchable geographically. So maybe best to be incorporated into POIs map and be searchable by service (gas /12v/230v/Oily bits/ bodywork / tyres/ batteries/ insurance come to mind immediately ).
It would need a lot of management to ensure standards and quality and regular confirmation that the information is timely.
You would need the wisdom of Solmon when two members had opposite assessments of the same business, and would get all the blame for bad experiences and non of the praise for good ones.

Any volunteers ?

Steve, what I do if available if find company website, then look through customer reviews, with LMCS having positive reviews.

Would think , like most things nowadays, people make their judgement using reviews

There is another Forum where Reviews of M/Home related trades/businesses can be added. If 2 members had differing experiences, then other Members can make their own judgement on whether they would feel comfortble or not using them, and they would, at least have some information on which to base their decision. Better than that Member handing over £££ to a business that has charged another Member £££ for a 'Let's try this and see if it cures the problem' random approach

And, if the Review of the business was quite old, there is nothing to stop the Member thinking of using the service from PM'ing the original Member to see if the info is still current. It's why I replied to RSD7a indicating that the repair in question was made in Nov 2021
