replaceing inverter

THe , I think, 10year old inverter has finally packed up and I am planning to replace it with the same ie. unscrew it from the mount disconnect the wires and reattach the wires to new unit. Being a novice and had never done this sort of DIY before, any advices and precautions I should take is gratefully received Thanks for reading

Disconnect the large feed cables from the batteries first

What is the inverter doing exactly? You may find that it may not be the inverter??
