Repairing Silver Blinds & Fly Screens.

The internal Blinds & Fly Screens on my Ravenna are in a bad way and I need to get them sorted.

Does anyone have any experience of taking them apart and fixing them?

Would the Silver & Fly screen be propriety or is it all pretty much the same?

Does anyone know a good place to buy new screen material?

I can't find a website for Ravenna does anyone have a link?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Long time for a reply but having trawled the forums regarding another matter came across your thread and yes I do have experience in this field but only with Sietz windows. I make the reply for the benefit of anyone else contemplating such repairs.

I'm pretty sure you can get the materials you require here

As for Sietz resouces try these:

The page has several pdf downloads detailing the construction and repair of their particular brand and models. I can't see other brands being radically different. However, I found that the tensioning equation was a bit too fierce for my liking, for a 1200mm wide window it suggests 15 turns, I felt happier with 9.

Refiiting the silver blind into the lower aluminium carrier was a bind as you have to insert a nylon dowel the full length. I could always get it in 3/4 of the length but no more. In the end I cut it in half and fitted it from either side. Trying to insert the loop pocket with the nylon dowel inserted prior to reassembly didn't work at all. The loop to make the pocket was created on a sewing machine using nylon thread to negate any possibility of thread rot.
