Got talking to an old guy inthe garage today who told me he used to wildcamp in campervans and even a trailer tent:eek:. He told me he used to travel to Redcar in Cleveland and stay on the Common near the beach and reckons it was allowed, cos it was common land, anyone local know of this spot?

I dont know that spot Lenny, but i have stayed futher down the coast Saltburn and Whitby.
How many years ago since the old fella stayed there as the laws have changed a lot to stop travelers stoping in places like common land.:)

Did'nt ask how long ago ,Trev, but he seemed to be talking just recently, he also told me of lots of tents pitching there which seems to rule out travellers,I will check it out next time I'm down that way;)

Good Luck mate lets know if you find it.;)

Good work Lenny Just go's to show there will always be some one who wants to spoil a good thing.:(

Something similar happened here where I live and the protesters applied for the land concerned to be given Village green status , and yes they won the case and the council had to back off. as I say, Good luck to the protesters:rolleyes:

Bad news, Trev. I just googled Redcar common and came up with this .

http://ts10.gazettelive.co.uk/2008/02/court_victory_over_tent_protes.html

Seems to be another local council only too happy to sell off land to developers:mad:.

PS Good luck to the protesters.

Living on Teesside I am aware that this is a long-standing dispute between the council and protestors. The protestors have used arguments concerning covenants which just do not exist. The fact that land might be referred to as a "common" does not necessarily have any bearing on its legal status. There have been a number of enquiries and legal cases and the protestors have lost every one.
The simple fact is that the council is perfectly within its right to act as it is.
Also, whilst it might be possible to camp in a tent, the land is simply not accessible for vehicles for wild camping or any other purpose - no road, never has been. The guy originally quoted may well have camped near the "common" - maybe on the big Majuba car park - but not on it as there is also a deal of confusion in the minds of some of the general public of where the "common" actually begins and ends

Well ,the protesters have lost every time, that does not surprise me because they have limited funds, whereas the council can hire the best barristers and pay for them out of taxpayers money to get their own way.

In my opinion, the councils biggest asset is the land that it resides over and the more of it that it can sell pulls them out of the sh** in the near future, with total disregard to the long term future.

Myself and my previous home were victims of these parasites:mad:

Sorry Lenny but in this case that is not correct.

In don't want to go into detail which is not relevant to this forum but please be assured that I personally have a great deal of knowledge of the facts in this case and take it from me that the protestors, whilst they may not like what is happening, have no evidence that the council has acted other then properly.
