While meandering through Europe last September heading south we stopped to fill up with fuel in Innsbruck.

On the forecourt we parked behind another car waiting for the pump to become free. On our left hand a BMW was also waiting behind a car.

Suddenly BMW driver decided not to wait and tried a three point turn prior to leaving by the same way she had entered.

Seeing her rear end rapidly closing on my passenger door I blasted the horn - in failure. Her rear bumper made contact with the Murvi and damaged the
rear of the front wheel arch and the passenger door.

After exchanging details and phoning Safeguard we carried on with our trip.

Four weeks later on our return I sent more details complete with photos etc, and was told "we will be in touch," go and get quotes.

Twice since our return 3 months ago I have chased them up and yesterday was informed "they have 3 months to appraise our claim, then another 3 months to reply,
but this may extend to 6 months".

Nine **%$**^&%** months to sort out a minor shunt, that cannot be the norm. Can it ?

Fortunately damage is cosmetic.

I was hoping that somebody, anybody, maybe might be able to shed some light on this situation.

It has been put to me that when dealing with "abroad" six to nine months is the agreed standard.

Thats the bit I have difficulty with, because if its true then whats it going to be like post ******.

In October I was rear ended by a Spanish lorry on a motorway in Spain. My van was damaged and my motorcycle and trailer written off. Yesterday I received the claim form from my Motorhome insurers. Just over 3 months. The repairs are organised for March. My insurers have not yet contacted the Spanish insurance company. Until they sort things out I have to fork out the excess and lose my NCB.

Had a problem with my van on Spain caused by bad workmanship resulting in damage. Was insured by Caravan Club - that took 5 months and a lot of chasing by us to get it sorted, even though the Spanish company admitted liability. No longer with the CC insurance!

Not much comfort there then lads.
It looks like the times estimates I have are about average.

Legalised extortion I am afraid ....if you are fully comprehensive ultimately they are going to pay / repair the fact they have to offset with a foreign insurer shouldn’t be your problem .....of course whilst ever the case is open and they are excercisng their subrogation rights you lose Ncb unless protected which is fine on paper until you need to renew and alternative insurers go to town loading your premium

You never win with ins co,and it takes time which is wrong ,time the law stepped in and forced ins co to work to a time limit, they grab you money fast may i add. :(
