I went down to the supermarket yesterday, and when I came out I had a low tyre. Being unable to change the tyre myself, and not wanting to get assistance out, I thought I'd have a go at trying to sort it myself. Gets the tyre inflator out but soon realised the air was coming out nearly as fast as it was going in, the rubber tube that holds the valve was cracked. I held it in place till I got the pressure up enough to use the supermarket inflator. The problem then was how to stop the air coming out again. I got a bit of paper, screwed it up and wedged the pipe shut. It held well, and I got to the tyre house this morning with no further loss of air. I'm not the most imaginative person in the world, so I'm well chuffed with my temporary fix.

Yes some of the pumps use a poor quality valve connector and let out the air as fast as you put it in.

But you have reminded me to get a replacement and see if that is any better,
