Hey there,

So as campsites look like they may be opening up in a couple of weeks, I'm feeling more confident about getting away. We had such a fantastic time going around Ireland last year and wondered what the WC picture / having us lot come over - is looking like over there ? Reading the Covid-19 news these days I find myself alternate between states of 'best stay away' - and 'lets start getting back to a new normal and not lot fears have the final say'.

That said, the gov website atm is only saying essential travel to Ireland so i guess its out for me. Though it looks like there would be no 14 days self isolation as we would have come from within the 'CTA / Common Travel Area ' https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/articles/coronavirus-covid-19-travel-advice

If they lighten the 'essential travel only' restrictions in the next couple of weeks then do you think I'd be good to come - I'm missing that Irish humour and friendliness, Guiness and Black, scenery, space and the multicoloured villages in the South ? :)

Cheers,
Melissa

If possible i would like an update as well, we where going to do the Irish wild Atlantic way last 3 weeks in August may have to watch this space?

Don't think they have opened up for holidays yet.
Best keep an eye on their government website...or ask on the motorhomecraic website.

A little early to say yet. One or two sites have been shown on local news with the comments that bookings are off the wall and that sanitary blocks will not open initially. There was one unsubstantiated report on motorhomecraic that site or sites unidentified were demanding long stays at exorbatent prices.
Like GB it is thought that there is an upsurge in the numbers of people looking to acquire either caravan or Motorhome. If this is correct then the demand on off grid locations and aires might be exacerbated by numbers staying in Ireland this year.
My van has not turned a wheel since returning from a shortened break in GB on the 23rd March. There are vans out for day trips but little evidence of non compliance regarding overnights.
I intend to wait a while and see how things pan out, particularly with small rural and coastal communities. as we made our way back from Yorkshire to Holyhead via N. Wales there certainly was no shortage of unwelcoming signs like people trying to mark their boundaries. I cannot imagine some areas of Ireland being much different until there is more certainty of the potential course of the pandemic.

I came across this from three days ago:

https://www.independent.co.uk/trave...coronavirus-lockdown-where-when-a9575636.html

Campsites in Northern Ireland are opening there from the end of this week with visitors attractions and pubs opening from the 3rd July!
In Southern Ireland it reckons its will be largely business as sual from the 29th June! - Just one week away?!

This all sounds very promising to me - another rural adventure around Ireland may be on the cards for me! ;-)

Hi Tony,

I don't think that seems to matter if you are going into Southern Ireland from Northern Ireland? Please do let me know if that is not correct?!

"The [Southern] Irish Authorities require anyone coming into Ireland, apart from Northern Ireland, to self-isolate for 14 days." - taken from https://www.dfa.ie/travel/travel-advice/coronavirus/

Yes Trev - there is no 14 days from going to England to Northern Ireland as they are all part of the CTA - in fact The Republic of Ireland is also mentioned (in the link in my first post) as being part of the CTA - so therefore one would think that if we are all from or moving around within the CTA then the 14 day self-isolation will not apply.

hello.
anyone thinking of travelling to southern ireland, google "gov.ie travel" for info.
