Why does my taps and tolilet dribble out water? I hear the pump working. Is there air in the system!! At times when the tap is turned on in the bathroom the tap at the sink does not seem to work. Is my pump packing up!! Advice needed folks.

If your taps are leaking then you will hear the pump running for a very short time. The water system is pressurised and you leaks are allowing the pressure to drop, so the pump comes on to maintain it. If its a neusance and you can switch the pump off, then this will reduce the leakage and cut the noise out

A pump can only supply a certain flow of water. If you open both taps the one with the shortest length of pipework from the pump will get the most of the water

We once had a problem when the pump didn't switch off after closing a tap. After a lot of crawling about and investigation we found that the hot water pipe that supplied the bathroom sink had become detached:eek: .We had to take off the taps and do some handywork. Managed to fix it though.

hi david,
,
it could be the taps arnt sealing properly but it could also be that the pump has been replaced and a pump with a higher pressure rating has been fitted forcing water past the seals.
have a look at the data plate on the water heater ,it will state max pressure(PSI) then look on the pump body. there should be a data plate with the operating pressure. if the pump is a higher pressure than the boiler max then CHANGE THE PUMP as the boiler will be damaged.
hope this helps.

Water pump pressure

Thanks, I have read all your posts. Perhaps Graham sounds nearest to the problem. May I go through the drill so that you guys may pinpoint the problem before I set out to buy a new pump. Filling the tanks, I open up the taps set on hot water, until all the air is blown out of the system and the water runs clearly, I then turn it to the cold position with all taps open, again till the water runs clearly. I shut taps and let the tanks fill up. This filling up system fills up the Boiler, Toilette and tanks automatically. Here is where the problems lies. The toilette flush seems to have no pressure, so does the tap, water dribbles out. All pipes and connections are okay and no leaks. Do I need a new Pump? How much will it set me back? Appreciate you advice.

Hi David.
Your filling procedure is correct, however I must point out, that the flush pressure on our toilet in our new van is less than our previous van for no apparent reason. Sometimes at first it will have adequate pressure and then later not so good. I have rightly or wrongly just put this down to a quirk on our van!
We had a new pump fitted under warranty for the problem mentioned higher up in the posts and not wanting to ever get caught out again, I purchased a spare (new pump) and this cost somewhere around £45 (from memory).
If you have no leaks, I would say it is the pump!, and it is not a bad idea to have a spare pump anyway as it could spoil your holiday if you were miles from a dealer and you needed one. (peace of mind)
Hope this helps

Thanks Buddy, Will follow your advice.

I would also say the pump is at fault, you may be able to buy an overhaul kit containing new impellor and valves?? If not it's a new pump, our toilet only seems to have a 'reasonable' flush, however the shower head is superb and this is the highest tap/outlet by far. Good luck & let us know how you get on.

Slight improvement to my water pressure. I went through the whole procedure of filling. Perhaps the first time I never bleed the system properly. Still not happy with the flow. Looks like a new pump is on the books. Thanks guys for all your suggestions.

this may sound silly but do you have an inline filter if you have it may be blocked or partly blocked

Had the same problem. Dismantled the whole system , reconnected pipes, taps,filters... Or the pump wouldn't start or wouldn't stop.
Finnally found the answer. I drained before the winter. But you can never get all the water out off the pump. the water evaporated and clogged the membranes with chalk (we have chalky water over here). Dismantled the pump rinsed with vinager and it worked as new :)
Other sollution: fill up with ale ;)
