thanks guys , the landy is feeling sorry for itself at the mo. mot probs etc, need to take the rear tub off for sum welding along with othet things. im tempted to convert it to a pick up with an idea of puting a demountable on it to increase space. Not sure yet just looking at the option s

It would be a shame to take the body off, it looks good... did you look at a Landy Roof from the new Dormobile: http://www.dormobile.co.uk/

hi ff yeh i thought of that but i think the trouble with a non fixed roof is that if im parked up sumwhere its too obviuos im camping where at the moment i looks my stealth in fact as my windows are blacked ut you would not know anyone was in thier. i know i know if i went for the demountable i would look like im camping a third way which ive seen other people do it take the roof off as it is a a county and raise it 3 feet and fill the gap with steel sheet which will make it a kinda high roof landrover if that makes sense. then it still looks stealth i dont need to keep attacing a demountable or open a top and as it fixed i can make up a fixed bed with storgae 24 / 7 your thoughts welcome.

Well I have a couple of different modes for my van.

For stealth camping the cab blackout curtains are drawn and the other blackout curtains behind dark side windows. And I use blue or red LED lighting inside which means no chink of light has a chance escaping. But I only have two seats round my lounge table then. It's fine for one or two. I guess your equivalent would be roof down and blackout sleeping on lounge/van seats.

For site camping or friend's drives or places like Stonehenge, I can swivel the seats, put up silver screens etc. This makes it obviously camping, but I can have a four or five seater lounge and much more space bringing the cab into play. You could use your roof for sleeping and storage while having the space below exclusively for cooking and eating.

So with an elevating roof you would still have a choice of stealth or spread out whereas with the demountable you would just have campsite mode and lose the looks of the vehicle somewhat. Although you can still wild camp in a demountable no probs but I camp a lot in urban areas sometimes in residential streets so I prefer a very low profile. It just depends where you park and what suits you really.
