I have been offered a 2003 Peugeot Boxer Elddis 2.8 Autostrarus. I am unsure of what it is worth ? It has 42.000 miles and very well looked after. At the minute the seller hasn’t told me what he wants for it and it’s available in November for further discussion. Would anyone have some idea as to what I would be expected to pay? If it is over and above my budget, I can then be looking for alternatives and politely decline his van.

Hi Rob. Thank you most kindly for your quick reply. Having looked at a similar one within your link a 2005 is £20000 without the garage. For this one being offered would you think I would pay more for a 2003 because of having a garage?

Motorhomes with a garage are certainly sought after.

Valuations are always tricky, being a private sale it may well be cheaper because dealers will always sell at a premium price, and of course condition makes a lot of difference.

Before parting with any money, it would be advisable to go round with a damp meter to make sure of no water ingress. Sadly, many motorhomes of that age will suffer from that (and a lot of newer ones too!)

You have to be quite hard before parting with a large amount of cash, I'm not sure how experienced you are with motorhomes and their problems, but if not, take somebody with you who knows what to look for. Also, if you do go for it, get the seller to demonstrate how everything works and video it on your 'phone so you don't forget. Also post details on here with pictures if possible once you get a price and I'm sure you will get good advice.

Sorry if this is all a bit vague, but I'm afraid that's the nature of the beast. Sellers will always want as much as they can get, and buyers will always want to pay as little as the can.

Good luck and hope you have a happy outcome. :)

Search the above adds also plenty on eBay to give you an idea but remember there is a big difference between what people are asking and what they are actually selling for,so pick similar ones out and keep watching to see if they actually sell.
Plus in November expect to pay a little less as prices drop slightly in the winter months

No doubt in my mind a 2003 motorhome can give years of pleasure and grief if you get it wrong.

At 15 years of age, the base vehicle is still 15 and needs to be considered and you will find a lot of dealers wont stock a vehicle of that age as they have difficulty putting a warranty on.

Private market, by keeping an eye on whose selling what should give an approximate idea.

Upon purchasing always worth searching out a decent caravan engineer if unsure to check things out, It might cost a few pounds but not as much as buying a "Pup"

lots of variables

Thank you to all. I’ve taken on board your valuable information. Don’t you just love this site!!!!

A dealer would be selling at around £19,995k so with his £8k mark up(profit/repairs /warranty costs) he wouldn't want to pay more than £12k, so as a private sale, around 15K to 16K depending on is condition.
Is he trading it in in november, ? what's he been offered?

I would reckon it's worth around the 13 to 16k mark, depending on condition, and length of mot.

Prices seem silly at the moment. Early 2014 I bought an 03 reg (so 11 years old at the time) Auto Trail Cheyenne for £17K, from a dealer, and sold it a year later for £16K. I'm now looking at what people are asking on eBay for MHs around that vintage and there are loads listed for 17-18K. No intention of paying that sort of money so am either going to do a self build or wait until autumn and hope to pick up a bargain.

I agree they are asking silly money for some, we have an 03 sundance and had offer of 10k no problem, which we would have been happyish with, but reckon it's worth around the 12k mark, just can't bring myself to part with it in case we don't replace it lol.

Unless of course its an auto then add anything from 5 to 10 grand on the price, scandalous
