Heard yesterday that LCD TVs use 4 times as much power than ordinary CRT TVs, is this correct?

I put your question to a techie pal who came up with the following.

Our 15 inch LCD TV is rated at 36 watts maximum.

Our modern 14 inch CRT TV is rated at 74 watts maximum.

Thanks for that! I didn't know either way but it was stated on a BBC1 programme that was advising people about green issues over Christmas.

The argument may be based on something else, the power used to manufacture the TV in the first place.

This could be an entirely different matter.

Is the technology used to make LCD screens that green I wonder?

Re: LCD Power

Virgil,
Don-Madge is correct LCD units use FAR LESS power than a CRT but use more to make... not a lot more but there's a higher failure rate making LCD screens due to dud pixels; where as CRT's are almost 100% perfect all the time.
(LCD's also weigh a heck of a lot less - useful if weight or fitting in a top locker is an issue).
