As a fan of the prisoner from the 1960s starring Patrick McGoohan I always wanted to see where the series was filmed. So I booked a pitch in their Motorhome park. For £65 you got excellent facilities including great pitches each one secluded with hedging, EHU, excellent showers, two elsan points, Motorhome service bay with best grey water disposal I have ever seen, and two tickets worth £40 for entry to Portmerion. Therefore the pitch only cost £25 for the night.
Portmerion did not disappoint, it was both unique and really stunning. The photos really don’t do it justice. The whole place is set on a Mediterranean theme with Italian architecture, we spent hours wandering about it. The prisoner certainly gets a mention, but not not overly so. The weather was great adding to the Mediterranean feeling, this place did not feel like North Wales, you felt you had been transported to Italy. Surprisingly it was not too busy, if it had been that may have spoilt the day.

It may cost a little more for larger vans, ours is 6.3m, but in my honest opinion it’s excellent value, if you are interested in visiting Portmerion.

Forgot to mention, your fee also inc access to the outdoor hotel pool, if you felt like a dip.

We visited there pre 2015, as we had our Dethleffs at the time, it really is an amazing place to visit.

I don't recall a camping area, as we found a spot to wild ]camp for the night.

It’s a great place to visit and a great price for the stopover. I stayed in Portmerion many years ago in the buildings, and met George Harrison. It’s a long story 😬

Never been it’s a place I’ve always wanted to visit. Might put that on my list for this year especially if they have a camping area.
As Fisherman said, if you’re intending to visit anyway, it makes the camp site only £25, for a really nice stopover. Plus you also get access to Portmeirion out of hours. Highly recommended.

Drugs involved ?
Surprisingly no 😂. We had several nights there, and were sat on the cottage porch, when George Harrison and a tv team walked down and asked us to move inside while they filmed him for a documentary they were doing. We then came across him later in the day, my partner asked for his autograph and he refused. As a lifelong Beatles fan it was a tad annoying.

We also met Jules Holland on the same day, who suddenly appeared out of the bushes in front of us where had had taken a shortcut.

Thats the magic of Portmeirion, you never know what will happen…

Been several times I do remember a time when you could overnight on the carpark with permission don’t know what the carpark is like now but it was a gravely full of weeds but great to stop over.
