Hi everyone can anyone recommend a portable washing machine, as there seem to be quite a few on the market?

cheers Mick

We have ...

This one
Leisurewize New DELUXE Twin Tub Washing Machine Spin Dryer For Camping, Caravan/Motorhome: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike

Did a fair bit of research, mostly on Wild threads. It takes a king size duvet.

Just be warned, you need to set a good few hours aside for the spinning between rinses and final spin. You also need an ample supply of water. And if you are not near a tap, you need a water porter - mine is called James. I can do a full load on our leisure battery. But not several loads. This means it really needs to be used to be on a campsite with EHU.

However, we have been using ours since summer last year and it has more than paid for itself.

We've had a similar one for several years now and agree that they are very good,it was stored and used in the garage. However we got a bit fed up with fetching and carrying all the water so now just call in at a campsite with laundry facilities and use them as and when necessary. We can easily last several weeks without doing the laundry,it's worth a fiver to get all the washing done.

snowed in

Hi just replying to the reply, the problem we have is we are normally snowed in, in some remote place on the mountain!! if you have ever skied or boarded you will know, come the end of the day we stink ha ha. Two weeks in a van with smelly clothes isn't good, most camp sites in the mountains are too far from the lifts so no point trying to get to one and we thought seeing as most of the stuff that needs washing are only the thermals and light stuff a little portable washing machine would do the trick nicely so I've took your advice and ordered the one on Amazon. Thanks:D

Using a twin tub tips

Soak really dirty clothes in a bucket over night. Let chemicals do their work. It reduces the washing time in the tub.

Get a detergent that works with cold or low temperatures if you need to harbour your gas.

Reuse the washing water for at least two loads ... till it looks grey!

I've never used the pipe supplied to fill with water ... a bucket.

You may have to split a load for spinning. Make sure the load is balanced.

Use a couple of washing up bowls to hold clothes as you move them between washing and spinning.

I find two rinses is sufficient.

Get an extension cable to run between your inverter and the machine.

Keep the polystyrene packaging that it arrives in to protect the machine in your garage.

Drying: we have two knicker chandeliers and use hangers to hang off doors, roof lights, shower etc.

When cold, I use rubber gloves to keep my little pinkies from dropping off.

Be ready to chat to interested people as they pass.

Hope this helps.
