Hi folks
We are looking for a dependable effective, 12v submersible pump for our shower. We heat water in a big pan drop the pump in and pump the water to the shower head. This system works well till the pumps fail which varies between 6mths to a year for one of these : AQUA FRESH 12v QUALITY PORTABLE SHOWER AND WATER PUMP 8/litre per min motorhome. Last year we decided that it was the cheap 12v pumps at fault so bought a 14litre/min replacement pump CARAVAN REICH 14LTR/MIN EASY SUBMERSIBLE WATER PUMP NEW: Amazon.co.uk: Garden & Outdoors Fitted it but could only get a shower if laying down and then only a trickle! If raised more than a foot off the floor, there was no water. This is actually a temporary (ish) solution for our off-grid barn until we get a head of water (another long story!) but we thought it would also be handy when in the van. Can anyone suggest a reasonable alternative pump? Or advise what we are doing wrong.

Have been doing some more reading and wonder if the last pump we got had an airlock, had no instructions so just fitted it to the 10mm hose and shower head instead of the non-functioning pump, maybe we should have "wiggled it around in the water" to release air? would that be the reason there was little flow? Whale pumps seem to be okay and read llike the power should be sufficient, dont want a power wash just enough to be clean! Resorted to the old jug over the head system last time we were there!

use a black shower bag .solar type but add warm water
another way is a pump up weed killa sprayer with a shower hose fitted .

Ours takes a moment or two to prime itself but then it's good enough to shower/wash the boat down/pump out the bilges etc. I don't really see how you could get an air lock, more likely a blockage.

Used to use the black bags but this was an improved system (;). It really should be soo simple just finding the right pump! We did also try the weed killer pump but the water is now heated in a big pan so it would mean transferring the warm water plus our way is hands free, which is a bonus.

The pumps you suggest look good. We have decided to buy one and take it out with us and fiddle again with the other one. Just looking up the Reichs pump made me realise I should have spoken to the seller. Done that and they are happy to have it back if I cannot get it going properly. He also suggested swopping the wiring round as it could wired wrongly! Feel a bit silly, but its all a learning curve!

Thanks, everyone is always so helpful.

One other use of course is pumping drinking water from container to main tank.
