portable galley

greetings!

Sadly the pennies have run out and we've taken the Talbot camper off the road and are just using a little Peugeot hatchback.

I'm thinking about making up a portable galley unit that could go across the back of the boot area to support long days out, or even in conjunction with a tent.
Has anybody seen good examples of this sort of thing or ideas for how you would make one up?

An idea I saw in a boating forum was to use a large pump-up thermos to act as both a water store and for making a quick brew. Seemingly the flask sits in a recess alongside a stainless bowl, room to get a cup underneath the spout, but not sticking up the whole height of the flask.

Are these twenty quid portable stoves any good (as per Argos and market stalls) - they look a bit flimsy to me. A grill would be handy to do pizza ....

Edit: If anybody else is looking for ideas then these search terms are handy for google:
"camping kitchen" , "chuck box" , "portable kitchen" , "explorer box"

I'd got hung up on the "galley" term and was missing all sorts of interesting stuff - especially on YouTube.
Following on from Kangooroo's post I've found that the Kangoo community are really into the car-camping concept. For a small, multi-purpose, vehicle there's a lot to be said for them it seems ...

The little stoves seem to be heavy on their use of gas. There are better things about for very little money

Trailer Tent

Why not a second hand trailer kitchen unit which normally includes bowl, burners, grill some even have water facilties, they came up on ebay quite regular!

There are lots of ways cars can be adapted for camping with a little imagination and ingenuity. Take a look at:Google Translate for some ideas. Although not based on a Peugeot, they can be adapted.

Glad you liked it! Somewhere I have a link to a couple who adapted their Renault Clio for camping - they were quite ingenious and created a bed arrangement with storage beneath.

Prior to getting my Kangoo, I camped in a Fiat Panda and Seat Marbella Fun (which lived up to its name). You don't need a large and fancy motorhome - just a little creativity and imagination and you can have all you need without splashing out on a second vehicle.

BTW My husband has a Renault Kangoo for which he's also built a removable timber bed frame. For day to day use, it's a car but come the weekend then it's completely transformed with no outward signs (also avoids any insurance implications).

Be creative and imaginative - and enjoy. That's what camping's all about! :)

i agree but the gas is cheap and the stove will packaway anywhere! space is at a premum at the mo! and you won't get much else as economical for the price!

£8 for stove £1 for gas!
