Police In I.O.M.

Hi...I havn,t had a PC since June so I am catching up with all the posts...and tell you about my Manx trip. My Daughter and meself went to the TT races for 10 days in May/June we wildcamped all over the island with no bother at all....but best of all was waking up one morning at 6.30ish to dogs barking on the beach car park at Ballaugh, the Police were training a new German Shepard. The officer came over to the camper and said...Sorry we woke you up but the pup isn't fully trained yet and doesn,t know when to keep quite....WOW what a breath of fresh air. We watched them training the pup for a couple of hours then moved on to watch the racing.... When I went back for the Manx GP races with the "lads" in Aug/Sept we went to the the same spot.... The pup had learned not to bark by that time.

Refreshing to hear someone say something good about the boys in blue instead of the usual whinging about them.

A good story Slim, and yes, it's not always good reading about the boys in blue.
Be interesting for you to see the dog again next year at the TT Races.

Happy Camping:)

let's run this topic a bit:cool:i have had a lot runnins with the law over the years and only ever met 2 barstewerds the rest were just doing thier job,i think it's how you react in the first few minutes how they treat you.
NOT GOING TO MENTION 1984 DON'T BELIEVE THEY WERE POLICE DO YOU MAINGATE

The thing is, it's not Macho to say "I was acting / driving like a pill*ck and I was treated in the way I deserved" is it? :)

Frank

Ive been caught out over the years on a couple of occasions for over exuberance on the road shall we say. Being civil and addressing them correctly every time as i was brought up to do only ever got me a telling off.
I admire them for doing the job they do, i do think if i wasnt as far down my current career path i would dearly love to join the traffic division

Here, here, Arthur. most of them were not policemen. I am only guessing because I have not spoke to one since.

By the way Arthur, you are not that Arthur, are you?

I've yet to come across an a**hole of a copper, treat them with respect and be friendly and you'll get the same back although I expect this won't always be the case....

should say though there was a time I couldn't drive either up or down the M6 without getting stopped for "routine checks", same every time, they would be cruising in lane 1 at about 50, everyone else was crawling past at 55 in lane 2 and I would (relatively) steam past at 70 in lane 3....

this happened about 3 times a year for about 4 years in a row

hope you offered them a cuppa

Understanding...

Manx police are very very understading... well they would be... you can only get off the island at certain times, theyll give you a rope..lol

As an old ROCKER..lol be advised they are watching you.

JUST DONT BREAK THE LAW.. its easy...
IOM is the nicest place ive been

Having been on both sides of the law, I know from experience there's the "30 second attitude" test you can pass / fail.

Put yourself in the Bobbys' shoes, you're probably the 20'th pull of the night, and being an a*se will definately not help your case.

Treat all as you would like to be treated. :)

i have also been one of the boys in blue ,granted quite a few years ago. we even had vauxhall chevettes :D to ride round in .and i must say the majority of coppers are just doing a pretty hard and thankless job nowadays and doing it well but and it is a big but ,when you do come accross mr bully boy then he is usualy a fully payed up member of the waffen ss, the worst force i have ever met for jack booted hitler youth is south yorkshire but having said that i feel they are in a minority. as i say i dont think i would enjoy doing the job now as you never know if and when you are going to end up with a knife between the ribs or some drug crased idiot is gona blow your brains out. all in all we would be in a sorry state without them out there looking after us all . p.s i still feel a little envious when you see the big b.m.w screaming down the road sirens going and all those pretty blue strobe light blazing away :D:cool::cool:

from one old ROCKER to another the I.O.M. is one of the nicest places on earth and that includes the people, Ive been going there since 1969 and found that provided you keep to the rules the police are OK.And YES they are wathching you.... There is no maximum speed limit on the island but they won.t tolerate nutters, plus no M.O.T. but are hot on unroadworthy cars... and rightly so.

My father always said the most useful thing in his wallet was a security pass for the Home Office (he ran education units in prisons).
Young Pc.'s were highly impressed with this and, usually, suggested he mentioned their politeness to the Chief Constable.

I was out of the industry by the time of the strike Arthur. I have often wondered if I would have stuck it out.

I would never scab, probably would have emigrated first.

That bitch caused more damage to Britain than Hitler ever did. She is failing in health, looking forward to the street party.

Now they want to open more mines, you could`nt make it up.
