Poisoned algues on Brittany-coast

I'm stil here in Brittany in the Côte d'Armor (northside).
There has been a serious warning about poisonous green algues at some places, e.g. St Michel-en-Grève. People got sick several horses and dogs allready died.
I'll get back with more info soon.

Hello Belgian,

There was a report on British TV last week. Apparently its caused by two things. The fertiliser used by the Farmers is washed into rivers and ends up on the beach.

The second reason is that French sewage farms do not work in the same way as British ones and release more nutrients for the algae to feed on.

There is a lot of algae in UK but it is non-toxic.

I am just waiting for the comments about the French and Sewage farms to pour in.

Regards.

I'd heard the seaweed was releasing Hydrogen Sulphide which is the bad egg or sewer gas smell. Hopefully the smell would be enough to keep you off the beach.

algae

H i folks

we were down the south coast/lincoln areas 4 weeks ago
there were notices advising not to their animals i.e.dogs etc.
to swim or drink in any of the waterways inthe area affected by algae
due to potential fatal illness.
so beware in the UK as well.
