poi's for scotland

We are in scotland right now, had planned to stay at C&CC temp holiday sites untill the 16th of august, then try a bit of wild camping up here, heading to aviemore area from stirling which is the last THS up here it seems.

however due to me misreading the start date of the edinburgh THS, we are parked up on a carpark near a canal 7 miles out of the city.

so we need some wild camping areas for the next week around the edinburgh area,

i have downloaded a few sets of poi's i've found on sites, but when trying them out today i found most of them just lead to bloomin campsites, or when they do lead to a potential wilding place, it's been developed and is now housing.

i've found someones set of poi's on here, who used the sites he posted less than a month ago, they start at loch lomand which is the way we'll be heading, but there's none east of there.

anyone got any wilding sites for the west area of scotland that they have actually been to recently?

i confuse matters as i am towing a smart car on a trailer, so i can't really just trundle down narrow lanes with the hope of finding somehwere to park up at the end, i need to know there is a wilding place still there, and then hope i can fit... am 7 meters long and about another 3 for the trailer.

Where abouts on the west coast are you going to be? If you are in the Dunoon area you could head towards Toward lighthouse - there is a carpark just past the yacht club - we have recently stayed there, no problems. Or if you want to be more wild then continue along that road, past the Oil Depot ( just drive on through ) and then about a mile along the road you will see Brackley Point ( it is on the maps ). It's really lovely there, safe for kids and dogs, lovely views and lots of fishing. Don't go right down to the bottom as you might get stuck but there's plenty of room nearer the top. Just take care as you go off the road, the entrance is a bit tight but we've done it often enough and practice makes perfect!! I've seen cars towing caravans pulling in there so you should be ok. Its about 30 miles from the nearest shop so you need to stock up before you go but there are a few houses around if you get short of water.

There are quite a few pull in's on the A861 on Loch Ailor, well west of Fort William and south of Arisaig. Stopped here a couple of weeks ago.

well, we werent heading specificaly for the coast, just sort of to the west,

was thinking of going to loch lomond area from the THS near sterling next week, i'd like to go back to dunoon and loch eck as went there as a kid,

then head to fort william and ben nevis area,
then head north a bit, want to go to aviemore, but unsure if i can stay on the ski centre carparks or not, some sites say yes, others say they are locked up in summer, or you can't stay there as security chase you off.

havent got any firm plans tho, just want to see some nice bits of scotland whilst we are up this way.

idealy want places we can park up safely and leave the van for a few hours whilst we go out in the car to explore properly, so side of main roads are not for us,

we really could do with somewhere around edinburgh that is deffo ok, as the place we are at now we dont want to outstay our welcome,

tried the potholed ground infront of the ocean terminal today, the dreaded 'no overnight parking' signs have been breeding there, couldent find anywhere else suitable around that area, so ended up back where we spent last night,

hi, as you are looking for site in edinburgh area , north berwick along from beech next to golf corse is perfect to wild camp, i have used it a lot in the past 6 years, and its not far from edinburgh, jake..

just come from north berwick area... stayed on the temp holiday site just to the south,

we're on a park and ride right now and seem to be ok, have heard that we could park up a night or 2 at the dry ski slope carpark or the picnic site carpark just past it, so will check that out after we have our day trip into the city tommorow,

then we are heading to stirling, well just above to a THS, and then that's it, wild camping from then on.
