I think we have been here before but many years ago. I use google maps all the time as its great for plotting routes on the laptop. It does not show Elevation though. Google Earth Pro does but I always thought it didn't do routing. It does now however. So you can scroll along the route and see the altitude. Better still using the Ruler tool you can click along the route and it shows you a profile of the elevation below. However its a bit clumsy as it just draws straight lines along the road but you get a good idea.

Ive been talking to ChatGPT for an hour looking at different apps and options to get a more accurate elevation profile but have come to the conclusion that Google Earth is probably the easiest unless you know different?

This is a route I did just now between two Motorhome Aires. The one on the right looks quiet and small but its at 800ft above sea level and the one on the left is near the Grand Ballon in the Alsace mountains at 3800ft. Looking how hot its going to be my thinking is the higher one might be more comfortable for a good nights sleep but I bet its noisy during the day at least.

All interesting stuff. :D

Magic Earth shows the elevation profile when driving a route. I haven't tried it but if you set up what they call a demo route, one that doesn't start at your current GPS location, and then run it as a demo the elevation profile may be displayed.

There is an Android app called My Elevation which uses Google Maps and allows you to show the elevation of your current location and if you disable that function it can show the elevation of any point that you choose to place a push pin.

You can select multiple locations in order to compare elevations. It doesn't offer an elevation profile.

In addition current weather conditions are shown for places you pin plus information about the local area.

Thanks. I have altitude apps for my phone which can be handy for just knowing how high you are when you get somewhere but I never do route planning and plotting on the phone it drives me nuts. Always done on the laptop. As you can see. Lots of detail.

This has reminded my I need to download all the maps for Magic earth for navigation and google maps for France. Just doing it now.
