I had a POI for places to stay near water, I found that I never used it, and on a tidy up deleted the file, I will hunt around see if I can find it and post at some later date.

Try Bawdsey there is thee places to park up in and there is the whole river estuary to explore. also good canoe access to Felixstowe if you want a night out

You can park at north end of lake on common ground or, if you want to launch boats, visitors centre in the day. You will get booted out of the carpark at closing time but can overnight outside the gate.

semerwater in the yorkshire dales. only a few pounds to camp, collected by a local farmer, but don't know if allowed to canoe on the lake (which isn't massive but is close to you, wildcamping and beautiful countryside).

Many thanks everyone.
Looking at the canal side sites has made me want a narrowboat again lol.
thanks.

Llangorse Lake on the edge of the Brecon Beacons - unless this is the place you're already referring to!

For wild camping I would recommend Crummock water in the Lake District. A few good spots along the roadside. I am not sure if you need a permit or not for boats.

For a lakeside campsite you will be hard pressed to find a better one for boating than Waterside on Ullswater. open camping right by the lakes edge. Not open all year though

Waterside House: A Lake District Campsite on Ullswater

There is also some good pull ins on the main road along Ullswater but I wouldnt want to stop there overnight as it can be a busy road.

There is a good little wild spot just near Brothers water and a campsite but a bit of a hike with the boat and not a very big lake but ok for an afternoon.

Car park at the bottom end of Derwent water also has direct lake access. In fact the lake was in the car park this Christmas!

'Her indoors' bought (me) an inflateable 3 seater canoe for Christmas, and I would too like to know of an ideal place to try her out! (the canoe, not the wife):lol-053:
She, (the wife, not the canoe) did not unfortunately buy life jackets or paddles, so I am 'up the creek' without them, until ebay provides! I was an inland canoe instructor in the forces, so should be ok with the paddling thing, but not sure where to paddle legally.

I'd check she hasnt upped the insurance Beemer, a canoe without life jackets or paddles mmmmmm dodgy.

British Canoe Union if I recall correctly would be a good place to start. I think they can licence canoes for use on canals ...

You can get bouyancy jackets from Decathlon cheap.
My rule is simple no life jacket/bouyancy aid no canoeing.
I tend to paddle anywhere accept for resivouirs as thay can have whirlpools.
Ive paddled a fair bit on the canal without any problems but the water quality makes it unpleasent.
Never had to pay to paddle anywhere.
