Photo id on Scottish ferry journeys

Howdy folks. I went to Orkney mainland over the xmas and new year period and was surprised to be asked for photo id before I could buy a ticket for the crossing from Gills Bay to St Margarets Hope. I was just checking out www.pentlandferries.co.uk/ to see what the new prices were and whether their new catamaran is in service yet. Whilst on the site I noticed that they state that no photo id is required to book or sail with them. I dont know whether they just havent updated their website lately, or whether they no longer require a photo id for passengers. I tried to phone them but they were engaged for ages, so I'm non the wiser! Just thought that I'd mention it. Would hate to think that someone may drive a long way only to find you didnt have a required id.

It must be to do with the e-borders legislation. Soon we will need photo id to go to the next county!:)
Don't know what I would do as I don't have a passport or any sort of photo id.

Thanks Kreos. I keep meaning to send for a photocard driving licence...I still have just the old paper one.

photo license

Remember the photo ones only last 10 years
then you have to renew them.
save some cash and wait till you have to change
