Had the motorhome in today to have a new clutch fitted and that went great however ......................

Now when i turn the ignition on the word OIL comes up and flashes along with the spanner symbol underneath it for approx 5 seconds then goes out.

This has never happened before, what used to happen was the square blocks that indicate the oil level would light up then go out after approx 5 seconds.

When it was coming up to service time the spanner would light up and that is an easy reset using the trip button and the ignition which i would set at CFG 1.

Once reset the spanner would go out and stay out until the following year. I`ve done this but it hasn`t made any difference.

I rang the garage and he said it`s because the battery has been disconnected and just needs resetting.

This has never happened before even when i change the battery for new ones.

I`ve trawled the interweb and cannot find any info about this.

P.S.

I know how to reset the normal service spanner symbol so don`t need info on that.

CFG1/2/3 select the service interval. 18,600, 12,500 or 9,300 miles respectively (can be set for different usage patterns for different models). Once you've got the CFGn displayed, a quick push on the button switches between them, but once you've got the one you want, hold the button down (it says at least 5 seconds). This should reset the service interval to the required mileage, and reset the service indicator. I assume you have had the service indicator switch on due to mileage? The spanner symbol on mine always displays as a test on switch on. When a service is due, I additionally expect a countdown to appear and not disappear until the config above is done.

I know how to do that but this " sequence " has never been displayed even from new before .

Now when i turn the ignition on the word OIL comes on along with the spanner underneath it and both of them flash for approx 5 seconds.

I used to get the little square blocks ( up to 5 ) indicating oil level which would then go out.

The word OIL is where the time is on the display with the spanner beneath it. The little square blocks used to be where the total mileage is shown.

All I can think of my Berlingo when I first start it comes up with a oil ok message for a few seconds when first started, and I presume that if it wasn’t ok it would probably flash up with something like the message you are getting, so if your oil level is ok then when they have done work on your gear box they have disturbed the wire or sensor that lets you know if the oil level is low.

I`ll try wording it differently.

Does anyone know where the oil level sensor is on a 2006 Mk 2 X244 Peugeot Boxer 2.8 HDi ?

Please don`t come on and say dipstick.

I remember seeing it hanging down when i put a new sump on the other year because i gave it a gentle wipe with a clean cloth to remove any residue.

Before anyone says anything it worked perfectly after that and was definitely working on the morning i took it to the garage for the new clutch.

For the life of of me i cannot remember if it was front, back, left or right.

Persisting it down here now so i`m not getting under it and crawling about in the wet.

It`s not flashing low oil it`s a message / word in a place i`ve never seen before in the 12 years i`ve owned it from new.

What used to happen on start up was the oil level check was indicated by up to 5 little squares or OIL HIGH or OIL LOW where the total mileage is normally shown.

The spanner symbol would also light on the other side where the time normally is and both would show for approx 5 seconds then would go out.

This would then leave the time on the left hand side and the total mileage / trip mileage on the right hand side of the display.

I couldn’t tell you where the sensor is as I have not had much to do with the boxer, but the fact that this had happened since the gearbox has been done would suggest it is probably near the gearbox end of the engine,

I`ve now got the front end up on my big ramps and if the weather clears up later i`ll get underneath and have a look :hammer:

I found a part number ( 1131G8 ) so they are readily available if i need a new one.

The strange thing is that i can`t find any reference to this problem on the interweb apart from the later X250 model with a different dash and readouts.

The only problem i can find with my year and model is the service spanner reset which is very easy to do and i sort out every year.

To be continued ..........................

I have looked too and cannot find anything about them apart from they can be bought, but even then there aren’t many for sale which suggests that they don’t tend to go wrong,
So most likely it has just been left unplugged.

Had a bit of a break in the weather so i went underneath for a look and the oil level sensor is still secured in place and has definitely not been disturbed.

There`s still a bit of dust and grime around it as well as the electrical connector further up which is firmly plugged in.

I noticed the different message last night but they were closing up as i picked it up so didn`t have time apart from leaving it there to sort it

I`ve rung the garage up first thing this morning who`ve agreed to me taking it back for them to have a look at whilst i wait.

Just rung the Peugeot main dealer and the oil level sender ( part number 1131G8 ) is no longer available

if it just flashes for a few secs then goes out , and theres oil in the engine and garage confirms all is mechanically as it should be id call it a software update and live with it. could be hours of frustration trying to alter it.

Sounds like the usual complaint with a X250. So may be worth checking your ecu for faults I have to resett my 250 in the engine modual of the ecu

There isn`t a menu option on the X244 models so that isn`t available. All you can do is to set the trip and reset the service interval i.e. spanner.

The garage has had their Snap-On full diagnostic machine on it and it`s showing nothing wrong, no stored codes, no nowt :rolleyes2:

In a way i was hoping that would highlight the problem but it hasn`t as it doesn`t think there`s anything wrong :hammer:

As a last resort this morning i disconnected the engine battery for 10 - 15 minutes then reconnected as that sometimes resets things

No more OIL and spanner flashing but neither are the oil level indicator squares showing :rolleyes2:

What i now get when i turn the ignition on is the full readout i.e. time on the left with the solid spanner for 5 seconds underneath then it goes out and the total mileage on the right.

Think i`ll live with this for a while and see what happens on a few runs over here before we hit Europe in anger :drive:
