I think Timber is having an arthritis flare up. I am seeing the vet tomorrow, and there are a couple of options that I need to discuss with him. But, both are either administered monthly (librela) or are controlled drugs and can only be provided one month at a time (gabapentin).

What do people in similar situations do on trips of over a month? Is it hard to find a vet who will offer continuation of treatment? Do you need anything from your home vet to show them what the treatment plan is?

The gabapentin in capsule form is exactly the same as given to humans, what strength is prescribed to your dog? It depends on the dogs weight but usually 100mgs every 8 hours unless a bi dog.

Do not give a dog liquid gabapentin because it contains xylitol but capsules contain exactly the same ingredients, speak to your vet if you need advice.

I am prescribed 300mg capsules, four taken three times a day, even one of mine is too much for a dog but my old dog was prescribed 100mg, exactly the same as my MIL, (it was horrible to see her limping and in pain with the arthritis but I thought sod it, the dog needs them more than she does🤣🤣🤣)

There are ways of getting gabapentin legally if you need them so don't just rely on your vet, once they are prescribed you can get them.

My concern is what to do if I only get a one month supply, and we want to go away for two months - sorry, I wasn't really clear on that crucial information ...

We don't have a prescription yet - he may offer something different, but these two are pretty standard for arthritic pain.

What's the dog's sexuality got to do with its medical needs? :ROFLMAO: Bad enough with the lack of discretion when cocking its leg ... :ROFLMAO::rolleyes:

We went to the local vet in Portugal for Chloe when we were away for several months ( pre b***) They did a consultation and prescribed drugs, supplied enough to cover us while we were there. Cost less for everything than one visit to UK vet. Might be worth doing that? Also my mum's cat was diagnosed with high BP and needed meds. The UK vet actually suggested that they would do a prescription which they sent to Animed (after we had investigated cheapest option for amilodolpine prescription) To have the tablets from vet was several hundred pounds but online was £85 for 100...still annoying as I take same tablet ...but cat needed 1/4 dose

My dog has a daily pill to manage her allergies. We get a written prescription for 6 months supply at a time. I think the vet charges about £22 for the script and then we buy from petdrugsonline. It's much, much cheaper than vet's prices.

We took our dog to a vet in La Marina, Spain when we stayed there over winter, I was surprised how efficient and cheap they were

I saw that Steve but unfortunately the edit button has vanished since the forum upgrade, so I couldn't alter it, I think Phil is trying to teach us to type without mistakes 🤣
