Why should drivers of motorhomes be a special case?

I've signed it. It makes sense as a 3850kg motorhome can in theory be exactly the same van as one thats plated to 3500kg and some manufacturers down plate them deliberately so that anyone can drive them leaving naff all legal payload. Although the real reason I've signed it is in 11 years time when I'm 70 and have to apply for a medical to drive my 4250kg current van I might be thinking of selling it by then and it will go up in value as anyone can drive it if this passes.

Mine is 4350kg empty but plated to 7.5 ton, just got my licence back and its 3 years, so i will be 71 before renewal if i live that long.

The EU have already agreed to raise the weight to 4250kg and the U.K. are expected to follow, It’s expected to be introduced in 2030.
Oddly if you have an electric powered motorhome that’s 4250kg you can currently drive it on a U.K. cat B licence
