Will my existing EU Pet Passport still be valid?
This is the most common question at the moment with the changes coming in .... so see this thread if you don't know about them....
Honestly, all I can do is take the information from the EU document which is screenshot in the linked post above, and then think logically.
IF the EU passport was correctly issued and the rabies was done in the EU by an vet, and is still valid, then you come under the "transition" section.
So you should be able to use the EU PP to travel until it is deemed to be "full".
Once full them you'll not be able to get another EU passport for your pet, and will have to get an AHC until the GB pet passports back in (date not yet confirmed).
What is "full"?
We don't yet have clarity on this.
But logically, the worming section will fill up quickly, and different countries passports have a different number of pages for this.
The health check section is another section that a lot of vets like to complete, even though it's not an entry requirement. (It might be if you were flying as some airlines want a fit to fly).
However.... the change may affect any that might not have been issued correctly, and I can imagine that pet control might well clamp down on how lenient they are.
I cannot guarantee anything for anyone and nor can anyone else because the changes haven't been implemented and we don't know how strict they will be.
I (nor indeed can anyone) cannot yet say if the pet check in controls will clamp down on existing EU pet passports which have errors/amendments or missing information.
We will not know how they will treat those until the changes are implemented and people start to travel.
So, what do you do?
If you want 100% total security then get an AHC from a click and collect provider £100 for 1st pet.
But if you've travelled several times with it, and without issues then the odds are more likely that you'll be ok.
I cannot and will not give a guarantee, as I won't take the blame if you get stopped if they find an error.
So it comes back to you, to weigh up the options and risks.
The changes come into effect from 22nd April... so when we start to hear how people are getting on will be the telling time.
