Performance Metrics

I'm a bit worried, this new performance monitoring system & the potential to be locked out of parts of the site.

Here's the thing. We wildcamped for 2 years solid around Europe in 2005 & 2006. We covered 26 countries from Nord Kapp in the Arctic North of Norway to Dubrovnic in Croatia. From Capo St Vincent in Portugal to L'Viv in the Ukraine. I don't feel I can contribute much to the site as all my info would be well out of date. We are now back in the rat race, we have a van & for the first time we are exploring the UK, so the info is great for us.

We've made great friends through the site & been to 4 meets this year. I enjoy the site, love the banter & I've posted a couple of bits where I thought they were useful & not duplicating things. I've not seen much evidence of abuse of the site.
In honesty I don't fully understand why access will be driven by contribution, as far as I can see that will just see the site grow exponentially as people post anything & everything to avoid being locked out. This surely would make the site a nightmare to navigate.

If I've missed the point - sorry, if I haven't why do we have to perform to be able to socialise with what are at the end of the day a great bunch of people who want to help where they can & get a good beer of three into them

I agree 100%.

I would also like to add that the greatest danger is that the database will become overloaded with, out of date, inaccurate or just plane naff posts entered by people just to biuld up a "score". The database would then end up as useless (or worse) as none of the information could be trusted.

i also agree 100% BUT as i said in the admins post most forums have a members only area which can be accessed after so many posts, printing on here good spots and have it open to anyone is saveing the council work and also giving them proof of what we are doing just my thoughts:eek:

Any experience is valuable,no matter how old you may think it is. Often I refer back to trips I have done in Norway,Egypt and India,as we can all learn from our own and other peoples experiences.

i dont understand this. the site was fine as it was, for me & i presume a lot of others.
why change something that worked well ?

if we are all members of the same site why can some get into more than others if that is the case ?
everyone are not in a position or able for different reasons to put things in so why should they be excluded ?

All very confusing this, plus yesterday morning I had a medal! and this morning, been stripped of it! I do like the green though. Oh well nothing changes, give with one hand and take with the other. Lost a couple of stripes in the Army as well, but got broad shoulders, so can take it on the chin:p must have been a bad bugger:D

I thought the system was fine, but would agree with Old Arthur, that we don't want to do the work of the local councils, but how do you stop a council member from joining and observing.

Happy Camping:)

I agree about the dangers of posting just for the hell of it , as for the councils in my experience by the time they react , we will all have shrugged off this mortal coil anyway. As we are all europeans we might threaten to sue them as taking our basic human rights.........that normally makes them think

That appears to be Game, Set and Match! This morning we have lost the stripes and medals. Bit like being at Wimbledon:D

Happy Camping:)

activity

I look on here every day (mostly) to see if there is anything i can benefit from reading and occasionally post a reply if i think i can help (by being very new to motorhoming someone with better knowledge and experience usually beats me to it)

I have already used up the only weeks holiday that me and my wife get off together doing wildcamping around the Highlands (the other full week is a week touring scotland on the motorbike iwth 9 other mates) so most of my use for the rest of the year is going to be going somewhere on a friday evening for 2 nights out once every fortnight. I am therefore only interested in places within around 100 miles from our home but i love reading about other peoples trips to further afield places and sometimes get quite jealous of their exploits.

I am glad to see the bars have been removed and any sort of 'class' system introduced by admin can only harm the friendly nature of the site in my opinion.

If its about the site owner wanting help to pay for the upkeep then surely he would only need to ask?

Another site i spend a lot of time on (North UK Bikers | North UK Ride-out Site) is also FREE to use but people volunteer to contribute on the basis that we may lose it if the site owner gets saddled with all the costs. As for admin control, that task can be delegated out to some of the senior members if admin is getting overwhelmed with it can't it?

If its not broke...don't fix it:rolleyes:

I'll get my coat..........TAXI :D
