Pembrokeshire crackdown on 'wild camping' in car parks FYI

Concerned at the approach taken with lay-bys.

It is unclear how parking up overnight in a lay-by can obstruct emergency service vehicles. I guess it depends on the location and position of the lay-by in relation to road width and the proximity of any farm gates and other entrances.

But if lay-bys are now being targeted by authorities who are using the emergency vehicle excuse to fine, then parking up overnight anywhere in the U.K., other than on a campsite or a vehicle park permitting overnight sleeping, is becoming extremely problematic.

Wondering how they can legally fine people in all those varied locations...
Good point. If the land is considered “private” then what rights do local authorities have to issue penalty notices?

They are not the landowners. However the emergency service vehicle obstruction issue is their trump card maybe?

Be interesting to see if any of the fines are contested.

If you park in a lay-by and it causes you to block access for emergency vehicles then surely the council should be fined for putting a lay-by there in first place?

I know that spot outside Dale. It's about a mile from the village, no houses nearby and directly off the road. Been used for years, no problems.
Trouble is the whole country is suffering from a severe case of virus paranoia exacerbated by the hordes of Benidorm types taking staycations . The knee jerk reaction of authorities is to ban things because that way they can't be blamed for anything. There was an article yesterday about Ceredigion being overwhelmed with tourists (nothing to do with wilding) so a bunch of councillors and MP s have written to government crying "something must be done". Later in same article local businesses were reported as being cock a hoop because they were being saved from bankruptcy.
Let's hope this settles down by next year, they can all fly off to the Costas and we can enjoy our beautiful country quietly and respectfully once more.
(When I wrote 'beautiful country ' I was thinking of Wales but, in the interests of balance, I should point out that other 'beautiful countries ' are available within the UK)
