pedal powered generator? Anyone done it?

Hi All,
about to collect my Hymer. I was wondering if anyone has made a rig to generate power with a static 'bike'
As i currently use a 'turbo trainer' to exercise on. I feel that someone who knows a bit about 'electicity' could advise on what bits i'd need and the gearing needed.
Many thanks
Phil

Sounds a good idea, keep fit and generate power at the same time.

There was something like this at the sellafield visitors centre a few years ago. the bike powered a light bulb and had a meter on it to show the power you produced.
I was knacked after it :)

pedal power

hi phil and the group,

interesting topic here, i was curious about that exact same thing and went about seeing what could be done.

i've just completed my latest version taking things to my best design yet.

have a look.

i think you can easily mount a generator of some kind onto that "turbo trainer" of yours. hey.. if your gonna ride it anyway, might as well get some useable power at the same time.

we do have to keep things in perspective thou..not gonna power the city with it. but useful just the same.

happy camping, dave

Just get hold of an old DC motor connect it to a regulator same type you would use with a small solar panel (£15 or so) fit it to your turbo trainer and hey your charging batteries my friend........
