Peckforton castle cheshire

Does anyone know anyplace to stay as close to peckforton castle (cheshire) as possible.
I am photographing a wedding there in march and it costs £150.00 a night to stay in the castle.
I have a hymer 534.

Here are a couple of possibilities:

There's a picnic area and car park off the A41 at Broxton seen here 53.08346, -2.78004 - Google Maps I don't know if overnight parking is permitted.

This is a picnic area and car park marked on the OS map. It looks quiet, if uninspiring, just here at Alpraham 53.12940, -2.62745 - Google Maps

There are lots of pubs nearby - might be worth enquiring about an overnight stopover (in return for a pint or two ...).

Regards

Chris

Cheers for that. I will be parking up and getting a taxi there and back as i will be having a drink so i don't want to be to far from the castle.
I may ask at the castle if there is anywhere to stay in their grounds.

There is a campsite (I know its not 'wild') at a pub called the Bickerton Poacher which is a couple of miles from the castle. Might be safer to stay there rather than leave the MH unattended while you go to the castle. Look at www.bickertonpoacher.com

Thanks for that paul, i have just phoned the bickerton poacher and they are only 2.5 miles from the castle. Looks like we will be staying there.

We used to live within easy walking distance of Peckforton Castle and, were we still there, you would have been welcome to park in our driveway.

You are probably right to go for the Bickerton Poacher but another good alternative is Morgan's Nursery CL/CS site which is about the same distance away from the castle. Very nice people and a lovely spot with fabulous walking in the hills nearby.

By the way, Peckforton is pronounced PECKforton with the emphasis on the first syllable; I've heard lots of non-locals putting the stress on the 'fort' part of the name and this isn't right. Not that it matters really but you might not want to embarrass yourself

Why not stay in the castle car park? Our rouse is we were on holiday in the motorhome and calling in to vist/photograph/help with disco etc and would like to stay, you then point out if they say no (Never have) that the motorhome will STILL be in the carpark as that's your only form of transport!
