Any camera experts out there? I'm looking to buy a decent CSC and just wondering if anyone has experience with the Panasonic GX1 camera? Would you recommend or are there better compacts than this one? Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks

I always feel that you're wasting your time asking advice such as this. Any opinions that you get will necessarily be very subjective. Even if you find someone with this model, he will no doubt think that it's marvellous, but how does he know how it compares with comparable brands?

The only way to get a broader and accurate view is to search the web for comparative reviews. Also be very careful from whom you buy it. If you do it online look carefully at the small print. You may well find that the firm with the co.uk website is actually based in China or some other foreign country and it will be a nightmare if you have any problems.

Lumix is good,my pal who is a professional with an agency always carries one and has had some excellent 'spur of the moment' shots, and there is always photoshop. Video function is also excellent.

Agree, I have a Lumix, excellent point and shoot

We're looking at the TZ21 at the moment - greatly reduced on Amazon.
previously bought a Fuji from Amazon - excellent service. Asked a technical question the other evening and had a reply by the morning - I just wish that Panasonic were so quick to help...........need to know if an in car USB charger is ok for the battery fitted to the Lumix.

There is quite a full review of the GX1 on Home | PhotographyBLOG - worth a read

When you go on this site do a search on lumix gx1 rather than scroll through the reviews to find it!

My wife has the Lumix G1 & GF1, she finds them easier to hold than my Canon 5D & 7D. She also has a wide range of lenses to go with them, including the 8mm fisheye. The results are nothing short of superb, even hand-held with the telephoto.

I have only one complaint, and that is the lack of 'B' setting greater than 4 minutes, which makes them useless for astro photography, which is a shame because the image quality, small size and light weight would otherwise make them an ideal choice.

Here's an example taken by my wife at the Etruria Industrial Museum. Hand held. The camera has managed to capture an exceptionally difficult scene:

Excellent Camera !

I've got a Panasonic GX1 and it's Ace !

If you get one, try to buy the 20mm f1.7 lens to go with it.

It's a fast lens and pin sharp.

Enjoy !
