Paint Codes

Hello peeps,

We have had a small 'scrape' in the motorhome to the rear wheel arch which is plastic or fibreglass. I thought it would be quick and easy to get one of the smart repairers in. The first one I have contacted says he does not know how to get the paint codes. Anyone got an idea ?

I guess the ford one for the cab is straight forward, but the Hymer body ? Do they put the codes somewhere or is it a matter of contacting Hymer.

Besides that I thought the codes were irrelevant after a few years due to fading and the smart repairers did a 'best' match.

I had a similar problem, no such code for my MH.
Took it to a car spray paint outlet and they scanned the said area and mixed up a spray can .
It's possible that the affected area can have faded , so a scan would be a better match.

Unless you ever t-cut the area. I don’t think most paints fade as much as they used to but some will need something to bring the original back up. As most folks are unlikely to t-cut a van (I would think anyway) a match should be fine.

In the good old days a decent tinter were always at a premium , nowadays using spectrometers and the paints basecoat and lacquer a decent bodyshop should be able to assist bread and butter work,

Paint fade is not as bad nowdays, but if a van needs a t cut then the rest of the panels cut and then paint mixed to match

Thanks for the replies, as always informative.

I thought I would try a direct route and ask Hymer in Germany, previously they have come back with helpful information. So I sent them my serial number and asked for the paint codes.

The reply I got was :

Your colour is Cristal Silver Metallic. This is a special Hymer colour and your local hymer dealer can supply.

Frankly I was a bit disappointed as a Hymer dealer (at least a UK one !) was the last place I wanted to go anywhere near.

So I might just try a body shop.

Your van may have been painted with either water base or two pack depending on age,but all water base paints have a clear coat of two pack over it so any paint shop worth there salt should be able to sort.
Dont try painting with spray cans as this make a bigger mess to sort properly later at a larger cost, and over time flakes of,i have done the odd small job, well 12 of them one week.
