P&O Portsmouth to Bilbao ferry ending

Just heard on my local radio station that P&O are stopping the Portsmouth to Bilbao ferry in September 2010 when the contract for the Pride of Bilbao runs out. They claim the ferry has been running at a loss for a long time.

Hia
Can I ask is there any other crossings to Spain end of Nov Dec or Jan

Shame, it was definately on my 'todo' list, although I have been told that that boat trip has pretty rough seas with some people throwing-up the whole time

Thats a shame. Although quite expensive we really enjoyed our trip---- so much more relaxing than travelling through France !:(

Brittany Ferries are introducing a second ferry to Spain (Santander) from Portsmouth, so there will be three ships providing a service this year. BF are very expensive though.

Seeing as I have no sea legs whatsoever, I am difficulty finding sympathy.

For me at least, I would far rather traverse France sample aires and the local produce.

Of course notwithstanding the 'response' to my co pilot sat in the captains seat. A GSD driving a camping car !!!...Gendarmes faces on point duty are a picture to behold.

We went on this route many years ago, was expensive on board and the best entertainment was past my bed time. The rough sea, that'd be the bay of biscay. If you are lucky you see some dolphins on this route.

We went on this with 6 sportscars (no camper) last year.flat calm all the way.

Pride of Biboa is getting a bit old though.

Best thing is the timing. Leave Portsmouth in the evening, get there after a full day and 2 nights, so arrive fresh at 9am into the rush hour

The BF one gets in late in the day after 1 night and 2 days at sea
