Camping le Futuriste near Poiteirs are no longer in the ACSI scheme and as such they are now charging €29.20 for a night in January. We usually stay there en route to France however we won't be at that price.

I note that there are several aires in the area which look to be more than suitable. Has anyone stayed at an aire (or elsewhere) in the Poitiers area in winter? If so could you recommend/link to it?

Thanks

There is a nice aire at vouvray ,just to the right of Tours on the river. Haven't stayed in winter but see no reason why it should not be ok as no gates or barriers etc. Water might be off . Just a thought if going down that way , pretty easy to check out.

The huge FutureoraScope Theme park just outside Poitiers used to allow/encourage "aireing" (free) on its huge car park. Last time I used it though was at least 10 yrs ago

There is an Aire at Chauvingy about half an hour from Poitiers.
The Aire is behind the Cemetery, go up the hill out of Chauvigny then turn left following signs for the cemetery. Iit is only a small car park with designated parking for about 6 motorhomes. Hopwever, there are toilets there and washbasins that are cleaned daily. There are also picnic benches. We have stopped there many times without a problem. 3 mins walk away is the medieval part of the town. There is a market on in the town which is very good and big, very vibrant with lots of parking. Very nice to visit.

Thanks for this.

When you say it is small, would we fit in do you think, as ours is 8.7m long?

There is a ‘camping carparc’ site at Beaumont St Cyr about 12 miles from Poitiers, alongside a huge country park but you need to be with ‘camping carparc ‘ to book it, will take large van but no toilets.

Yes I spotted that. I also spotted that it was €12 a night too!

Yes, you will get on at Chauvigny no problems and it is free but no services as such.
There is also an Aire at Le Grand Pressigny close to Chatellerault ( half an hour away). This one has 2 free hook ups and drops and water. Again it is in a car park next to a campsite and swimming pool, and Free.
We have stopped at this one quite a few times . The village is about 5 mins walk with nice bar. The aire is very quiet.
We have done the A10 to Spain alot of times and know quite a few Aires on the way down.
Hope this helps. PJ

Thanks

re Chauvigny, it says on the WEBSITE BLOCKED BY ADMIN website to approach along Rue De Bretagne NOT Rue Porte Chevreau which is narrow and twisty. Is this pretty self evident when you approach the place?

Take the route where the aire is a few metres from the junction at the cemetery, I posted a g map link on the other site. The other routes in are tight, compounded with parked cars.

Take the D2 up the hill from Chauvigny town. Keep going up the hill and take the 4th after the lay-by parking on the left with the coloured animals on the wall. The road is called the Rue de la Tuillerie and has sign posts saying Cite Medievale and Cimeterie. (It is the second sign post for these on the hill). The first sign post will take you up a narrow road. T

Sorry, pressed wrong button.
The road we suggest is not narrow like the other one. We are 7.44 metres and have no problem We have seen Cathargos ( sorry cant spell it) the very big motor homes on the Aire many times.
If you get there on a weekend once a month there is a brocante in the town centre exactly where the market is held too.
If you have the time there is a really nice Aire which is fairly new at Angles sur L'Anglin. Another old village, no services but you can park on grass or hardstanding. Same place as Roc de Scorcerers. Also stunning place.

Theres a large carpark for future scope we've stopped there for a over nite a couple of times no charge plenty of space can't say what its like during the day

It's €8 for 24 hours now with the 24 hours starting at 8am...so that would be €16 in reality.

We stayed here overnight in the end
