I came to England in 2005, sat my driving test and was issued a Full licence for 9) Category: B, BE, C1, C1E, D1, D1E,f,k,l,n,p. It expires on 31.08.2012. As from tomorrow I can apply 3 months in advance for a renewal. Please look at the Category and post me if I am allowed to drive vehicles upto 7.5tonnes. If yes, 1) Do I have to get a special form? 2) Do I have to go through a Medical, if so, what kind at my family GP. If there is anything I need to do or when reading this post, I have left out, please let me know. Many thanks in advance.

C1 you are allowed to drive upto 7.5 tones

The vehicles you can drive or ride and minimum ages : Directgov - Motoring

At the age of 70

Renewing your C1 or D1 entitlement
If you want to renew your C1 or D1 entitlement, you will need to complete an 'Application for a lorry or bus driving licence' (D2). This applies whether you previously held full, restricted or voluntary entitlement.
You must also provide a Medical Examination Report’ (D4).Your doctor will charge you for this service. The D2 and D4 forms are available from DVLA local offices, the Vehicle Operator Services Agency, the Driving Standards Agency, Traffic Area Offices and LGV/PCV training schools.

Renewing your driving licence at 70 plus : Directgov - Motoring

Hope this helps

At the age of 70 you will have to take a medical in order to keep your licence to drive vehicles over 3.5 tons.
You should receive the necessary forms from the DVLA, including the medical form. The medical is best carried out by your GP, it simplifies things if he/she does it. The doctor will charge for the medical exam, I think the going rate is about £80. You will need a medical every subsequent 3 years. Full information available on the DVLA website. Cheers Brian

Thank you Bigmillie and BrianG for your quick replies. Will go to the Govt: page and read up on the information. Thank you once again.

I will be leaving for Europe on the 17th of May and will not be back till late September. I expect my English licence would still be at DVLA, or lying on the floor at home, after I have left for Europe. Question is: Can I drive my MH with my German full licence. I also have a British yearly International licence which is valid until 14th December 2012. Will I need to inform my Insurance company that I am driving under another licence while my English licence is being renewed. Your advice please. thank you.
