Our 1st Biggish Roadtrip.......Help!!

Hiya,
We are planning on touring around Cornwall in July, this will be our 1st biggish trip and i think some much needed help from the experts is called for. We will be travelling down from Scotland and want to visit places like Bude, Port Izaac, Perranporth and any other places anyone can recommend. My biggest question is.... in what order should we do it, is there a better or worse route. I was kinda thinking on heading for Exeter then Bude then heading down the coast a bit then heading across(east) and then finally heading northwards (lots of "heading" I know...sorry!!)
I should have said that we have 2wks to do this in & given the distance from home I think we would be best not dilly dallying with the bulk of the miles, i.e Glasgow to maybe Exeter area in a day then chill a bit & start our roadtrip. To the experts out there does this sound like a good plan, your help is very much appreciated............Thanks

Lynn

We always like to get the miles out of the way first then we can explore whichever area we are in.

I must say that you are brave coming down here in the summer - we always go somewhere else - too many tourists:lol-049:

Seriously though - your route sounds good - everything in Cornwall is a short distance away. I don't know anything about Wilding in Cornwall, sorry Kernewek, in the summer although there are plenty on this site who do. If you aren't wilding then there are plenty of sites or CLs around, also I believe that you can stay o/n in the carpark in Tintagel for £3 ish.

The places you mention are real tourist hotspots and will get very busy - the other thing to bear in mind is nearly everywhere you stop your van you will have to pay!:mad2: that is unless you go inland to places like Bodmin Moor etc.

Have a good trip - Cornwall is a beautiful county.

we usually manage a trip to Cornwall every year and always go to Tintagel. Last year we overnighted on the carpark opposite the Tourist Information £2.50 overnight and £2.50 all day ticket.
Our last little trip we did Exmoor A39 car park at the verytop, then down to Devon, Appledore, overnight in town car park (if anyone uses this don't forget to put 2 tickets on if you overhang the spaces, they are keen on for this, ticket man was there at 8am checking tickets)
Then down to Widemouth Bay, campsite here but since noticed there are POI's there. Then down to Tintagel for 2 days, lovely walk along coastal path to Boscastle. Then visit to Padstowe for play on the beach with the dog then over to Constantine Bay and overnight in a famers field for £7, water and toilet. Free wifi from the campsite next door, lol.
Next day visited Fowey then long drive home.
Have a great time :fun:

Yes I like to get the miles out of the way but some like it to be part of the trip !
I have driven the route to Cornwall from bristol way so often I tend not to enjoy it anymore .
Plenty of places to stay in Cornwall but you will need to ask members as many of the best spots are hidden .
You going to use any sites or just wilding ?

Hi basildog,
We will probably wild most of the time with just a few sites thrown in for the essentials

there is a meet in july in cornwall if you look on calender

Hi oldish hippy, we are planning our trip to start on 30th june til the 13th june so it would very much depend on where we are on the 13th, we might be lucky & manage it :)

Hi fishy & nina
We are self employed & our quieter times are when the schools are on holiday so we tend to take our holidays then so we will just need to jostle with the crowds :) I am noting down all recommendations from all you helpful campers & am now gettin quite excited about our hols.

Thanks everyone for your help & info xx

will try to find it on the map if i can remember it?
There was a huge campsite next to it and It was on the way to a David Belamy site, one with it's own private bay, they wanted £45 for one night!!! so we drove back out and spotted a hand writen sign on a gate saying Camping and an arrow. There was one other van on there and one tent. Famer came around 1st thing in morning for the money.

Lyn. the famers field was on the way to Mother Ivey's Bay Caravan Park. They are in the Camping and caravan club site guide or have there own website. Like I say they were too expensive but the field was about a couple of miles before it. It was next to large site called higher Harlyn Park.

Google Maps

If this link has worked this is the google earth view of it and you can see the field next to it. Large campsite on left as you look down on it, field is top of it as the road goes around, road on right with campsite on 2 sides of it. Hope this makes sense?

There is a farmers field on the way into Bude. It's opposite the sports centre and Morrisons Supermarket. 10 minute walk to Bude and the beaches. 1 minute walk to Morrison's. Lovely quiet and peaceful spot. Large field set back off the road, could take upwards of 25 vans. Basic facility, but has water tap and toilet. You don't need to book, you just drive through the gate and park up. £5 per night, very flat field. He operates an honesty box, so if you have to leave before you see the farmer, you just pop your money in his post box situated on the shed wall near the fresh water tap.

There is also a good wild spot in the poi database. Just follow the coastal road out of Bude and layby on the right overlooking the sea. Stopped at both places at Easter during that lovely weather we had. Eh what weather!!!
