hi everyone
just had a fantastic trip to the orkneys for 10days with wonderful weather and met up with brandyman and his wife for a chat, brilliant bloke and full of information.
we sailed from gills bay on pentland ferries £56 single for a 1 hour crossing, very good outfit.
we stayed at kirkwall campsite owned by orkney council, 5*, then stromeness again council site, 3* toilets could do with refurbishing but the site is fine, we saw auca wales here, then to birsay campsite, old school, outdoor centre with portacabin toilets 5* had two nights here.
we then went over to rousay for a day, bad day, we paid for a farm campsite, we were told there were some people on the site in the hostel but we could share the toilets/showers, what a load of t-----s, 12.30 they burst into song, rather drunken wailing, so i went out am told the to go to bed, without success so we left, dont use this site as its no good, slopping site very wet and very poor facilities.
back to kirkwall and then on the last night managed to persuade the better half to wild it, stayed at sands o wright good clean toilets with hot water, briliant.
if anyone is thinking of going i would recommend it and get in touch with brandyman, he's so full of information to help you enjoy your time there.
we are thinking of going back to do some of the other islands.
