Savapoint.com have offers on an Orange dongle.

I am no expert but 1gb for £10 a month seems not too bad. There are plans starting from £5 a month for 500mb.

Hi All
someone told me that the vodofone pay as you go dongle have now withdrawn there no time limit for unused memory:mad:. i.e. they have gone the same as all the other providers. That is to say they have gone down the road as everybody else (30day limit). Seems to me that they have shot themsevles in the foot.!!!! . So the Orange deal looks pretty good:D
Bye for now

Tesco's had some mobile dongles, I picked up a 3 dongle with 3 months (3 gig) usage for £29.99. They had the same dongle with just 1 month (1 gig) for £24.99 so the 3 month option looked good.

The tesco site says that the Vodaphone dongle includes a £15 credit (1gig) which expires in 270 days.

My local Vodafone shop (Inverness!!!) told me this only applied if you did not use it at least once, though they quote 180 days.
Also, check or ask if the dongle is HDPSA enabled, if so you will get a much faster connection in some areas, usually the larger towns/cities. Details are often on the back of the dongle or box.

Orange Dongle

I have the orange dongle 500mb for £5 per month, for use in my motorhome used it touring the Lake District during Easter this year, Good orange cover in the areas I were in. super no problem great to get online in the middle of nowhere! I also find 500mb more than enough.

We use our mobile phones, plugged into laptop, for internet access when a WiFi signal not available. No need to purchase a seperate dongle/sim card.

Cost is included in Vodafone package for phone and have not noticed any change in average monthly bill.

Was wondering why others don't do the same, or perhaps they do?

I wish I could, I couldn't do it with my phone, had free internet included but couldn't use the phone as modem.

O2 and T-Mobile

O2 currently have 1Gb/month + free dongle on 24 month business contract for £6.38/month +VAT.

Personaly I use a standard T-Mobile PAYG SIM card in my dongle, only get around 200kb/sec but it's fine for email and occasional browsing if we are away for a few days. Credit doesn't expire, cost is £1/day or you can buy packages: 5 days £2.50; 30 days £5; 6 months £20

I have to say that the PAYG SIM is not supposed to be used like this - I think the T&Cs state that it should not be used with a computer - but it works for me :)

Actually do this occasionally, but find a dongle on a metre usb cable tends to be a more consistent connection as you can hang it outside the van and get away from the Faraday effect

Hi - I think the secret here is to register the Dongle as a Phone, not a dongle, then you can get better deals, £5 per month etc.

I have an unlocked 3 Dongle and use all the networks on PAUG, depending on coverage, but mainly 3 & T-mobile as they offer the best package.

using them aboard for anything else but the odd email will cost a fortune, and I always find a WiFi spot.

Hi all,
Sat here at Peterbough show quite happy with the Orange dongle. Running at 29.00 squids a month. Has it's moments (as do all!!!), but on the whole very happy.

Sorry but I'm not up to speed with mobile broadband - don't you think £29 per month is expensive? here at home I pay £20 per month which includes unlimited broadband, line rental and evenings & weekend phone calls (landline).

There are still some of the old Vodafone 1GB for £15 dongles available - some Maplin branches have them, as did Amazon until recently (and may still do). I'm using one at the moment in the Brecon Beacons - albeit in a poor reception area so can't actually do a search for stockists until I'm back on a higher speed connection,

It all depends how you use it, I pay about that for my business dongle, It has unlimited usage. Many of the so called cheaper options PAYG will make you pay for the amount of data you transfer or have a limit that once you cross you pay through the nose for usage after that point. Nothing worse than being at your monthly limit and finding that you need to use your dongle at £1 a meg :(

In short PAYG is only cheap if your mobile usage is low, if your a heavy user that a contract will work out cheaper.

Orange, not at the moment, They are a perfectly good company but I would stear clear as they are having financial problems and I can see them having to put up their prices.

:)

I suppose if you need it for business then you need a reliable no-limits connection so have to pay the price.
Never tried mobile broadband, if there's cheap or free WiFi on a campsite I'll use it but I don't do much "internetting" when out in the van, and some of the prices I see on here put me off bothering. (I'm not fully enslaved yet).

I can use my PDA & phone to connect and I suppose I could connect with the laptop via the phone but I've never bothered - too slow I should imagine.

I've been with Orange since they were Freeserve - back in the dial-up days - aren't they due to merge with T Mobile?

Rgds
