Opinions on demountables welcome

Hi

I am looking into the possibilities of purchasing a demountable camper (eventually), Ive seen few romahomes. However I have a few points I'd like to make/ask.

1st Romahomes are too small
2nd How do they stand legally. Some I have seen on ebay etc would in my eyes not be legal. The camper extends over the bodywork of the vehicle, probably does not have a rear bumper(!) and appear to be overloaded (not very stable).
3rd Can a standard Transit pick up with out major alterations (or similar ) for example be used as a donor vehicle? If not what sort of alterations are needed?
4th I've seen Toyota hi lux campers but would seem to be out of the question with the current goverment climate with regards to taxing, etc.

Demountables

Hi Paul. I would suggest if you go down the DM road is to make sure your base vehicle is a 4x4 pickup with plenty of grunt. Ive had mine over 20 years and swapped it from one 4x4 p/u to a later version. The 4x2 pickup cant handle the weight. Most of the DM's dont require alot of conversion work but they can be adapted to most pickups. Check out this site if you havn't already...

and Good luck!!!

Another advantage of this vehicle configuration..... You can go and stop over just about anywhere:
