So I was parked up for the weekend in a field looking over Alnwick Castle (known to some as the home of Harry Potter).
The ground was super-hard with large rocks lying just under the grass.
It was very windy at times so had no option but to peg down the gazebos, but the rocks made it very much hard to do
The super heavy duty pegs I have were just too large. The thin cheap pegs with the bent top were too soft. The Fiamma pegs with the yellow tops mostly worked
. But I had to leave two in when decamping as stuck solid and no amount of leavering would free them as must have slipped through a fissure in a rock.
And as an example of how tough it was, this was my mallet after about 5 pegs ...

Had to revert to my lump hammer (also with a broken handle, but that was 25 years old so I will accept that).
So time to buy a new hammer tomorrow with a good handle (I didn't even think about putting out my awning as with the wind and lack of ability to peg down properly it was too risky)
