On the move in Dorset

We've been in Weymouth since Friday, on a THS at £7.25 a night, as opposed to the £25 per night charged byt the local campsite. We came past the layby on the back road from Corfe Castle to Studland this afternoon and it's a definite no no, with at least two new signs. At the moment we are near Blandford Forum, waiting for a mobile fitter to sort out our heating. the site is called Bushey Farm and is only £11 per night with EHU, shower, toilets and washing up facilities, so not extortionate.

Manor Farm Burton Bradstock nr Bridport , A temporary Holiday site is about to open there [ Friday ] with the Lodon D.A. CCC. great site lovely walks across cliffs or along the beach to West Bay, or Lyme Regis, good pubs at Burton Bradstock, glad you enjoyed Weymouth, we never made it, we ended up at Abingdon THS, great time was had in spite of the weather.

Hi Bushtrekker, just wondered if you have any more details of the Bushy Farm site, location etc. as we will be heading down to Dorset at the end of the month.

cheers Martyn

Bushes Farm Caravan Park

Bushes Farm, Bushes Road
Blandford
DT11 8SU I have just googled this and it looks good.

Temporary holiday site perhaps.

Yes Temporary Holiday Site .The CCC run them all over the British Isles, usually for a month at a time, great venues and a cheap way to holiday.Usually no booking required just turn up, but you must be a Member or join at the site.

Just done 3 THS's in Scotland. £6 and £6.50 a night.

What I like about them is the more relaxed atmosphere. People generally chat to each other and there are not a lot of rules, just the few basic commom sense ones. You can park away from other vans if you wish as there is usually the choice of spots.

here are some of the rules.
1. 5 MPH on site.[ Children loose ]
2. Dogs and pets on leads, pick up their Poo.
3. Quiet after 11 pm.[you can still party but don't disturb others ]
4. NO toilets or parts of toilets at the Drinking Water tap.
5. Pitch a minimum of 20 ft.away from next unit.
6. All visitors report to the Steward on arrival at site [so no neer do wells come in ]
7. Rubbish in skip provided.
8.Have a great time and meet new friends , Simple isn't it.:cool1::cool1::cool1:

OOPPS most important one and I forgot that, FIRE BUCKET, doesn't have to be red though, only must have water in it. Someone is going to say now that water on some fires make it worse, I know that but we did save a tent once that had caught fire thanks to several fire buckets on hand, and they are handy for a passing dog [on a lead ] of course to have a drink, and where else would you float your Plastic Duck ?

We noticed some buckets, but what for?

Fires in caravans or motorhomes are likely to have a gas or electric source, in either case water would be the last thing to use.

Tonight we've bitten the bullet and paid for a night on a site in Charmouth, because of the howling gales, but at least we now have heating. No real plans now, apart from having to get our daughter back on the train to London next Tuesday, so if you are in Dorset say hello, as we are passing a lot of campers on the road. Bridport food festival starts on Sunday, so we can guarantee floods.

I'm still hoping to meet some of you at Overseal, although it will probably be in the car on Sunday, due to prior arrangements, but then I'm escaping by myself in the Hymer ;-)

Try the beach POI in Abbotsbury.
We were there last week if you stay all day it's £4 if you arrive after 3pm it's £2.50 and you can stay overnight. There's a car park and a grassed area to pitch and toilets. A cafe was open in the morning. This is right on Chesil beach excellent sea fishing.

We were there on Monday.

Somebody looked as though they had taken root, with a massive motorhome jacked up on the sort of ramps you use to support a car when you work on it. I asked the attendant what the position was ands he told me that officially overnighting was banned, but a lot of overnight anglers use the car park. There is a sign at the entrance, but he told me he went home at six and didn't know whta happened after that. ;-)

I asked and they said no problem but no tents. There were about 8 motorhomes there overnight.
