Doing a quick recce for our Norway trip in March.

We have done most of Europe over the years but not the Nordic region.

We did a lot in our PVC but got a Hymer to do this job.

Connectivity willing, I'll try to update :)

Hi we will be heading that way in April, and staying until November/ december to catch the northern lights, do you fancy a mini meet?

Norway is great just be aware that distances are vast.
Finland was Ok but we did not enjoy as much as Sweden
We did the inland route and more

Have a great trip, we were up at the artic circle this summer. Roads are good in Sweden but for a lot of the time you could be driving through forest . Roads in Norway are also good but progress can be slow if you want to follow the fjord roads. Before you get there you can stock up on the essentials in Germany, seems to be cheaper than UK, however in Scandinavia the general day to day things you might buy like cooked meats, cheeses , bread etc were not that expensive. As Jagmanx has said gas might be problem, however I think you might find ehu available near hotels in skiing areas. We stopped at a Hotel at Hemavan north of Sweden with such a facility.
 
I went to Denmark in April and it was cold wet and windy. Never the less a great time . Ribe is wel worth a visit.( Don't worry if your sat nav says you can't get to the Aire, the last 200M has a weight restriction!
In Denmark you are NOT camping if you can drive away, nothing outside, not even a step and no windows open that would stop you driving.
Sweden in May is wonderfu, wild flowers and the leaves breaking on the trees.
Finland for mid summer, great celebrations.
Norway is spectacular but pricey.
Toll roads can be avoided on most routes in Summer.
You have ' The Right ' to stay for one night in your motor caravan in most areas in Norway, Sweden, and Finland.
In these countries 90% of the population live in 10% of the area - by the sea in the south and a few big towns. This means that if you go off the main tourist routs into the Wilderness you are in for an amazing experience, Rush Hour traffic can get up to 2 vehicles an hour, perhaps 20 a day.

YOU MUST HAVE A SPARE WHEEL , a tube of goo is useless when the nearest garage is 100 miles away.

If you have heavy snowfall the vehicles are taken in convoys behind a snow blower at times displayed at the snow gates.

I found one place in Finland for LPG. It is only used 10 / 12 times a year so unmetered! Haggle the price.

I was in Scandinavia for 6 months, a wonderful trip. Do PM if you have any questions.
 
planning a trip

Some interesting stuff here. We're aiming to go via Estonia, Finland and South through Sweden in 2018. Any ideas on best time to go - will smid May be a good time? or places not yo misd. I reckon we've about 5-6 weeks for the round trip from UK.
Any pointers appreciated (though actually we'll be taking our spaniel!)

First observation was 'this is the coldest I've been'

Second observation 'no really this the coldest I've ever been ever'

The van is toasty warm, I'm very impressed.

I've had to switch the block heater on to keep the engine warm whilst driving.

The winter tyres are incredible, they have come into their own, the grip and road holding are confidence inspiring.

The winter wonderland is a sight to behold.

The northern lights are awaiting our viewing (after 10pm if we are still awake)

Missed the northern lights (asleep) but this was the view this morning.

Only minus 13 at the moment.
