Hi,

Ive been a member for some time but just been lurking in the background taking advantage of all the accumulated knowledge, but as this is my first post....hello from sunny (today) Shrewsbury!

I'm in the process of planning a Normandy / Landing Beaches tour in September (we usually head straight down towards La Rochelle once we hit French soil), and while most of it is coming together well I would appreciate some up to date advice on short term parking at Omaha Beach.

We will be visiting the Amercican Cemetry, then along to Omaha Beach and up to the Longues-sur-Mer Battery where we will likely spend the night. Looking on Google Maps, the latest images (Feb 2021) show the car parks near the monument having height barriers to prevent MH access. Previous versions show MHs parked freely in these areas.

Could anyone tell me from recent experience if the barriers are still in place please?

Of course, any other current tips for such a journey would be most welcome.

Thank you in advance,

Timotei

Someone the other day said the Longues Sur Mer gun battery location was now closed. Its no longer on CC Infos and search for sites reviews confirm. What a shame. Loved that spot.

You used to be able to stop in the car park at the American cemetery but that looks to have gone also.

Thanks for that info barryd....what a shame!...we were really looking forward to that view!...back to the drawing board for that evening then.

Few years ago (memory fooked) but if driving away from Omaha beach take first left and there is a parking area overlooking beach . Spent the night there , one other van

I went with a friend to the American Cemetery in the 90s, a profound place to visit, I was on the wing, he was on a Harley, and he just rode in made a right row, I've never been so embarrassed to be a biker, I like a loud Harley but there is no need to show off like that.

Thanks Alcam - I'm looking on Google maps (GM), not quite sure which way you were heading...from the monument or away from one end of the beach? The attached pic is latest GM, showing barriers on both car parks here (the far one is just visible behind the roundabout sign. I'm sure that once there we'll find a good spot, but as the trip still so far off my planning is the the only fix I get for now!

Sorry it is a distant memory . Think it was a one way system to and from beach ?
I had seen this spot on way down . Not an official carpark and very close to beach .
Quite easy to miss the turn off
Almost in the dunes

March we were parked where the merc is parked, no barrier in place.

Morning. I've had a look on the Search for Sites App and there is a campsite near Omaha Beach, (Flower Camping). There is an aires at Collville sur Mer with overnight motorhome camping, (around 5 Euros per night, but no services) and there is another fire, with services at Garage des Divettes in Aure sur Mer, (10 Euros and with a local baker on site in the morning). There is also a farm fire at Ferme du Lavoir in Formigny, with hard standing pitches and hook up for 10 Euros per night. That's close to The Overlord Museum. If you download the Search for Sites app, it's 5.99 per year, you can get loads of info on places to stay and park all over Europe. We use nothing else and haven't been let down once since we've had it, around 5-6 years ago. Bon route.
