Due to nasty noises from the gearbox area on the Jumbo
Weve not been away since New year....
Currently stuck with van front end in the air and the front subframe off and gearbox out.

New clutch has landed today (daft not to swap it whilst van in bits... Although it was replaced along with solid Flywheel in 2013)
Now just chasing a good second hand box before heading off again.

Going stir crazy at moment (though I'm starting to ache slightly less after removal works)

I know how you feel when there is what looks like organised vehicular Carnage payed all around & Un Finnish’s Xs because Y hasn’t arrived, I think most of us has been there.
But you know probably more than most to stay focused & that there’s light at the end of the tunnel,,,

Let’s just hope it’s not a Train full of Mischievous Pixies & Vehicle Gremlins Coming to hide Bolts & Random bits of van like metal.

Any time you want cheering up drop me a line matey lol lol.

Used to it with the landrovers mate...

Mind the welding side of things is slightly less ;-)

Keep thinking 'I'm too old for this'....
Then think how much it would cost to get someone else to do it...

hi
be careful if its a LUK clutch had loads of problems with them
espesially if its a solid flywheel conversion

I went for a 'National' (what was Federal Mogul) brand...
Though to be honest these days none of the brands seem to be as well made as they used to be.
Fingers crossed etc etc

The plot thickens ...

Replacement gearbox collected on Sunday ....and old clutch removed ...

Thought spigot/pilot bearing looked a bit sad ...no needle rollers left (transit runs a proper needle bearing rather than a 'bush'
It's also a closed bearing so not possible to use the hydraulic method to remove it .
spigot bearing slide hammer ordered (Im sure it'll come in handy in the future ...along with all those OTHER special tools ive ordered in the past lol), anyway fingers crossed it lands for Friday along with the other bits I've ordered .

Sort of progress I guess

You could not dig it out or use an expanding rawl bolt inside it to grip it ?

Having said that it would not affect the clutch pedal sticking down but might be adding clutch drag if it was snagging the shaft.

Pedal wasn't sticking down ....i was getting a metallic knocking on the over run when in gear and clutch pedal up only ....
I could have used a rawl bolt/ sharp chisel to split the bearing BUT the internal slide hammer and expanding internal fittings were shiny ;-)

I'm currently pondering whether the collapsed pilot bearing has allowed excess play to wear in the input shaft and upset the gear boxes little apple cart ...theres certainly more play in the input shaft in the original box compared to the 'new' one ...
Time will tell i guess on re assembly (and a heap of crossing everything lol

Box back in after a, beyond ridiculous fight with removing knacked spigot bearing ... (bloody needle roller rather than just a plain Bush)
Internal puller was, hopeless... BUT I now have a shiny new dremel to go with the internal puller I ordered
Dremel triumphed by grinding through the wall of the spigot bearing ...
Amazingly the box just slid straight back in...bit of a pfaff with the PLASTIC slave cylinder but alls well
Thought I'd service it whilst I was, already oily lol ...
Then found the viscous fan has **** itself and wobbling about likee after 15 pints of real ale ... Ahhhh well more nectar points accrued through Ebay.

Just speaking to a fave relation of mine and she's thinking of moving her Swift sundance 590 on ...
Hmmmm
Very nice looking thing I have to say ;-)

At least its unmessed with.... Worst ones are the ones that have, been 'fixed' before
OR ones that have been rusty for long periods and thus distorted...
Other than that its just unpicking/and re welding to put things back together.

Fan sorted and back on the road (thank god)
Very pleasant night on a small site in Ingbirchworth (near Barnsley)
Last night...

Feels bloody good to be back mobile again.

Weld a bit of bar onto bearing with T bit at top and hammer it out.

As we get older the jobs that never gave us a second thought become a nightmare.:scared:
