off-setting MOT and tax dates

With my purchase of a second-hand Motorhome I inherited its tax and MOT anniversary of 1st August.
This is very inconvenient as it comes bang in the middle of summer holidays so I want to switch it to January.
The tax problem is easy because I can pay for 6 months then 12 months in February but I suppose the only way of switching the MOT date is to 'waste' the valid period of 7 months and pay for another MOT in January - I assume the system allows this - Has anyone out there had to do it?
PS. A general thanks to all who contribute their experience to this forum I have found your help invaluable

I think that car dealers do an early MOT all the time as many like to sell a car with 1 year MOT. It is just a case of getting it tested early.

If you plan on wintering in southern Europe, you would need to consider that neither run out while you are away.

You can have up to a 13mth MOT, but like you say if you want to move it by 6mths then the only way is to 'waste' 6mths!
