At last, we can escape for a couple of days. Have booked 2 nights R+R at the Forestry Commission's Glenmore (Cairngorm) campsite this weekend. :D

Feels like an eternity since we were last away - even the dog's beginning to get cabin fever!

Booked a pitch with electric as its a tad parky at this time of year and we're taking our wee oil-filled radiator for background heating.

Hope to manage a few walks in the snow and take some pretty pics of scenery/wildlife.

:):):):):):)

Glenmore is a site I have stopped on, and a beautiful part of the world.

Quite jealous actually !!( it ranks in my top three)

When you take the hound for a walk around Loch Morlich, and you see smooth pieces of glass, remember the remnants of cocktail bombs going back to WW2
Norweigean resistance fighters that fought on the heavy water plants trained here before their sortie.

The Rothiemurcus estate has a lot to offer , but you MUST get into the Bridge inn in Aviemore ...Ecclefechan tart with fresh cream ...youll never touch a sticky bun again :D

Have a nice trip

Thanks Channa & biggirafe

Have been camping at Glenmore since late 70s, as a young couple, with friends, then with four kids, kids and their friends. dogs, bikes etc. In small tents, big tents several big tents, c***van, and now motorhome.

I have a special place in my memories for Glenmore, the loch and the Scots pine trees - always feels like coming home when we get near, even though I don't live/never lived that far north.

Daft as it sounds I know what you mean, there are two places I feel at peace irrespective, one is Loughrigg in the Lakes and Loch Morlich and surrounding area.

I first visited Glenmore under canvas , latterly a caravan, and still to visit with the motorhome.

I am English and the only connection with Scotland is I have a Scottish name!!!

Two parts of Scotland do it for me, Wester Ross ( well a bit further north too Gairloch etc ) and Aviemore area.

Skim a pebble for me and the hound in the Loch !!!;):)

Glenmore Site

Was ther last week. Snow was over 2 feet deep, had to use my snow chains in the site. The road to the site was slushy, but is always kept open for access to the cairngorms, which was closed (gates closed just past the site entrance). Was lovely during the day, windy at nite. Shop within walking distance, sells everything!
Enjoy?

We're off as well this weekend, about 8.5 miles up the road on a local MCC rally ;) . I know it's a bit close to home but we will get a chance to meet up with some friends we haven't seen in a while. Also gives us chance to check out that everything is working including the new water filter I fitted & see what we need for our trip down to Portugal next month (we seem to have been stuck at home for too long). Was hoping to have a couple of outings but the ones we planned were when we had the snow & I doubt we could have got off our drive
