A solar wind stream of medium velocity (400-500 km/s) is buffeting Earth's magnetic field and stirring up auroras around the Arctic Circle.

Will it interfere with my satellite? , because Mrs Channa so loves her Emmerdale.

If this celestial cacophony of mayhem should wreak havoc in its path , whom do I write to, and naturally I hope it is freepost ?

A rather toungue in cheekish

Mr Channa.

Btw Mrs Channa mentioned that she has noted telephone numbers of those solicitor chaps advertising on channel 4 on daytime tv)and will resort to the remedies that the law provides....Personally I shall write to the cc club cand errm cc and c club , in fact anyone I can think of and demand a refund .

Unfortunately the sky is pretty overcast for Ireland and West Scotland...North East Scotland might have a chance through bands of cloud...but it will likely be a low visible aurora on the horizon.

GEOMAGNETIC STORM: Feb. 15th began with a G1-class geomagnetic storm, still underway. The mainly-Arctic event was caused by the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) tilting south, weakening our planet's defenses against the solar wind. Sky watchers are seeing some unexpected auroras.

SWEET LIGHTS: For reasons not fully understood by forecasters, a disturbance rippled through Earth's magnetic field on Feb. 14th. Perhaps it was Cupid's arrow. The impact sparked some sweet lights around the Arctic Circle:

This quote from Spaceweather mentioned in Bigmillie's post -Geomagnetic activity intensified even more on Feb. 15th when the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) near Earth tilted south, opening a crack in Earth's magnetic field

This may well mean a display this evening but it's debateable whether it will be visible from the UK....what is worrying though is that every so many thousands of years the Earth's magnetic poles flip...there is also a region in the South Atlantic where the field is already very weak and it affects satelites as they pass over, (their systems have to be flipped off for the transit)....it's said the flip process is gradual over a hundred years or so...so it looks like this is indicative of challenges in the magnetic field to come....and perhaps we are already in the process of beginning the latest flip cycle.

Naw...I'll never happen....electricity was thought to flow from positive to negative and that's what is still being taught today...whereas in fact it is the opposite....they'll just paint the south side of the compass needle instead and it will be the North regardless of the reality lol!

Northern Ireland would become Southern Ireland and vice versa....lol!

(now there's a good trick...an edit becomes a new post???)

I saw the light!

Sorry, the lights when I was in the yorkshire dales on the night of feb 5, not perfect view (drifting cloud) but good enough, mainly shades of grean and yellow.

ps I'm a new member, see me in the :introduce yourself section;

cheers
